Fires in Southern California

Today while driving I was surprised to witness a ridge several miles away with roaring flames.   The air was dark grey.  I got out of my car and took a picture then called my husband to tell him what I was witnessing and I'd be home shortly.  Firetrucks and sirens filled the air.  Homes have been burned to the ground.  We have an RV housed in an area that you can't access.  About 1/2 a mile from us everyone north of that street is under mandated evacuation.

We are calm and watching this unfold...in a matter of a few hours over 3700 acres have been burned.  The wind is beginning to calm done but it was predicted to have 40 mile an hour winds and it is dark now so the water drops have stopped.  We know if we are evacuated, we grab out little guy,  the important papers, and are out the door.  I made a comfort food (a veggie sheppard's pie) and we are sitting tight.  All is well with us and we are prepared to leave if necessary.  Hopefully, we will have good news that overnight the firefighters have been able to suppress this fire.  My thoughts are with those who have lost their homes and worldly belongings.  Grateful that no lives have been lost.

@phoenixbrd I hope you will be okay.  So frightening.  That one in 2017 burned tight up to my daughters front yard-North Tustin-had just moved in and baby due in one week.  Those firefighters were amazing.  I will hope they can save you as well.  Our winds are kicking up here in Glendale.  Good luck.

@kjae   Thanks.  We are watching a breaking news update now.  Saying that the winds will pick up after midnight and that they are going to continue with water drops throughout the night.  That must have frighting for your daughter, glad all is well.  I'm sure we will be fine, but we will keep our eyes on the news throughout the night.  Glad you are out of harm's way.

@phoenixbrd   I have been following the fires that you are dealing with.  They are frightening and the devastation they cause is staggering.

It sounds as if you are prepared to go at a moment's notice.  Stay safe and I will be thinking of you.

@phoenixbrd   My thoughts and prayers with you during this frightening time.  A long night ahead of you.  We are in Northern Calif.  and under power cuts but nothing like what you are experiencing - stay safe - hoping the winds subside.

Dulwichh   We called the manager who monitors the location where we store our RV.  It was too late to bring it home as the freeways were at a standstill and not allowed into the area.  The staff no longer has accesss to  cameras and the electric entrance is out of commission and had to be locked manually due to power outage.  They left the area at 5:00 and I'll be glad to know all is well tomorrow.

You have had your share of challenges in Northern California.  Glad that both of us are safe.  Very sad that a family lost their animals today as the house burned.  I just can't imagine.  Other than that, no lives have been lost other than our precious wildlife.

Thanks for your prayers.

@Mersha   Thanks for your kind words.  Yes, we are ready to go in a moment's notice and prepared.  Maybe these few hours before the wind kicks up again at midnight, the firefighters will be able to get a handle on it.  They are amazing and I feel that we are in good hands.

Re: Fires in Southern California

@phoenixbrd , is this your new reality?  How scary.  I am in Canada.  My brother was in a Fort McMurray when fire destroyed the city.  Photos as they drive out were awful.  God bless and stay safe.  LM
