Yeah! DH got his Medicare card in the mail today effective 4/1. I had always carried our health insurance sind DH is self employed and thus no group plan. WHen I retired in 2006 we carried my old insurance with COBRA for as long as possible but when that ran out we had to purchase our own individual policies in Jan 2008. DH is in good health, not overweight and does not smoke. He does have high blood pressure but is on medication and that is now within normal range. When he bought his policy the original cost was $560.00 a month and that is with a $2500 annual deductible. He has been paying on that policy all of 08, 09 and 10 and has never collected a single dime on it. In January of this year the rsate went up again for the third year in a row and is now at $714.00 a month. The total cost to us of the Medicare premium plus the Medicare Supplemental Plan which is the best one you can get and his drug coverage plan will come to $238.00 a month saving us almost $500.00 a month and that ain't peanuts!!!
