[ Edited ]

3 girls hurt in Ferris wheel accident when basket overturns,

dumps them out

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- Three girls were injured after they

fell from a Ferris wheel at a county fair in eastern

Tennessee, police said Monday evening.

A bucket carrying the three children flipped over,

striking another bucket in the process.

They fell 35 to 45 feet.

This is why I don't like, and don't ride ferris wheels. Not to mention how they're put together at carnivals and who puts them together; or any carnival ride for that matter Are they really inspected thoroughly before, during and after? The whole thing is frightening to me. I feel safer not riding them at all.

I wouldn't ride them, either.

Anyone know how the seat "flipped over"?  Was it windy?

The girls ages are 6 ,10 and 16. The two younger girls

are sisters.

The 6-year-old girl remains in critical condition with

a traumatic brain injury.

The 10-year-old is in stable condition with a broken arm.

The 16-year-old arrived at the hospital in critical condition
but her condition has since been downgraded to stable.

Someone said the car the girls were riding in appeared to
"get caught" as the wheel lifted upward.

"It was like watching water pouring from a glass.". "They bounced off the metal bridging of the ride and eventually
hit the ground." Operators finally stopped the ride after
people on the ground screamed at them.

I heard the seat caught on something causing it to tip.  I lived in Greeneville once.  Nice little town.

According to witnesses, the girls were rocking their basket "hard" and it hit and became stuck on another basket, upside down, which dumped them out.

I live very near and the inspector said it was a mechanical failure but wouldn't elaborate yet. No seat belts on those rides required and it lurched forward into the center spokes. Such a tragedy. The six year old is critical with severe head tramau and on vent. Her sister has been upgraded to stable And the 16 year old has been released not sure about the 16 year old.

the fair just opened and all other rides have been ok'd by inspector. Makes me wonder.

I haven't read or seen a thing about this on the news yet but rocking hard is the first thing I thought of. If that is really what happened they should have known better. There are always clearly posted warnings.

Regardless of of the cause, what a horrible accident.
