Re: February's Bird Nest - Valentine's Edition

Hi everyone! Beautiful warm weather today, and is supposed to get into the 70's in the next few days, so I will probably not be able to resist going into the yard and weeding, but I am still stuck inside putting Christmas decor away, and organizing. It seems it will never end.

I decided to use a slow cooker that I bought years ago from HSN but have never used, much larger than my old one, to make a chicken stew. I used boneless, skinless chicken thighs, rubbed with paprika, but bone in would have been better for more flavor, potatoes, carrots, a huge onion, garlic, thyme, chicken stock, and salt/pep. I added fresh parsley when I put it on warm, it cooked sooner than I thought. I then added three tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with a half a cup of milk, I have non fat, and it thickened the liquid just enough, still thin, but more substance, and will add frozen peas. I will use lots of coarse black pepper on my portion. There will be enough left for at least another meal for the two of us, maybe more, love leftovers, one more meal I don't have to cook when I so so busy. It was great not to have to go into the kitchen at 5:00 to begin preparing a meal for a change.

I will be going out tomorrow to run errands so will enjoy some of the nice weather a bit. I do need a break from this drudgery.

Happy weekend!

Mousie- I use the cherry flavored Rapid Melts. They are about the size of a dime and taste fruity and a wee bit chalky. They start to dissolve as soon as you place them in your mouth.

They ask that the patient avoid drinking or eating anything for 15 minutes after it dissolves. It's not too bad. I swear by Zicam.

Birdmama, I wish I'd read your post before I went to the store, Publix, today as I could sure use something to help kick this sinus thingy, infection, flareup, ???that has 'migrated' to my lungs. I've been battling the coughing, sneezing, waterworks, etc for weeks it seems and now it's in my lungs and my whole rib cage is hurting like heck. I can't tell you how many boxes of Puffs I have gone through in the past few days. Need to buy them by the case.

I've never tried Zicam before. Is it over the counter, or a script deal? Thanks for the recommendation, as I've tried Delsym, Mucinex, Claritain D, Benedryal, along with Bayer, Advil, vitamins, even honey and cinnamon, mixed together. Supposed tosupress coughing. YEAH!!! NOT YET!!

I sure hope you are feeling better soon. My GS doesn't want me to hold Frank, the cockatiel, very much as long as I have this 'cold'. Poor Frank has to stay in his cage during the day when everyone else is gone to work or school. I do hold him a bit or I should say he rides on my shoulder and attacks my chains or runs down my arm and bites at my dive watch. He's a real "nut".

Feel better!! And thanksSmile

Hi Possummink - Zicam is over the counter and is basically a homeopathic zinc supplement. It works best if caught at the onset of any condition. If you've had a cough for weeks, you could try it but I honestly think a doctor's visit and some antibiotics may be in order for you. It comes in citrus or cherry. I'm surprised the Delsym is not working for you.

Hello everyone! I've been released by my team of doctors although I cannot travel back to England until at least end of March. I found this graphic and couldn't resist posting for my birding friends.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY to all my Birding Friends. Hope you have a happy and fun filled day with sweet memories tossed in.

I am getting a later start than usual as my youngest GS was confirmed this morning and it was a huge Confirmation class, 160. It took the Bishop quite a while to confirm each person and he spoke to eachconfirmant about the Saints name that they chose. My GS chose the name Dominic. I had a great aunt who was a Fransiscan Nun, and her name was Sister Mary Dominic. Brandon didn't know about her when he chose that name. Kind of a neat connection with his ancestry.

I almost forgot to put the below photo on here. It is a picturefromthe Great Horned Owl nest that I monitor every day, that is on Skidway Island, near Savannah. The photo was taken last night by the cameras from Cornell University Dept ofOrinthology. I was going to take a photo with my cell phone, but the Pin It button showed up so I sent ittoPinterestand c andp ittohere. They are really growing fast, both are over a week old and the mama owl seems to be doing all of the "heavy lifting" when it comes to brooding, hunting, feeding and protecting them. I don't know where the dadowl is.. Only saw him twice during the month or more I've been watching. He's supposed to help her out by bringing food. It is really windy there today as a front is movingthough andshe hasn't left the nest since I turned the other computer on. I read all the comments that other watchers leave and check out the videos and stills that they post. The camera operators at Cornell, just zoomed the camera lens way out so we can see the ponds, salt marshes and general area near the nest. Beautiful wild area.

Guess I'dbestget off of here and go fold clothes, oh YEA!not!
