Re: Fear of Flying Post Germanwings Crash--Increased, Decreased or Unchanged

I fly domestically, but never crossed any ocean. I just can't do it. Unless they come up with a plane that can get people to Europe in one hour, forget it. A 15 hour flight? Never! To me flying has always been the necessary evil that got me to where I had to go. I never enjoyed it, especially since 9/11 where the whole flying/airport experience changed making it more of a hassle. I do look over the people at my gate and take some comfort in friendly looking faces. I hope I don't have to give the pilot a once over as I board now. {#emotions_dlg.scared}

I've come a long way since I was young. I used to fear the plane itself. I decided I did not want to live that way so I did research, watched youtube pilots explaining the various noises on a plane and learned about turbulence and how a plane flies in general. It was a tremendous help in alleviating a lot of my unfounded fears. Ignorance kept me fearful.

Now no amount of studying and learning can take away any fears I might have of potential terrorists on board, or someone causing trouble at 38,000 feet. I just have to pray that I am not in the wrong place at the wrong time. It just boils down to that.

Unchanged. With the increase in driving accidents because of texting people should be more afraid to be in a moving vehicle.

No change. Doesn't bother me. I'm flying, going on vacation for spring break.

DH is also a retired captain for United.

I don't fly anymore, and I'm not crazy about all of the texting drivers around here, either. But, that's another story..........

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I haven't flown in years, but I would have to say unchanged.

I just can't wrap my head around why someone who wants to commit suicide would do it like that. Go run your car off a cliff.
