A local shop has chocolate doughnuts with a light glaze and shredded coconut stuck to it. They taste like cake and are so delicious. I haven't had one in years, though.

When I was working, once in a while, someone would treat the staff to Krispy Creme, Dunkin Donuts or donuts from a neighborhood donut shop. I liked Krispy Creme but I had to wipe some of the glace off before eating it. Dunkin almost wasn't sweet enough. But that neighborhood bakery place would have us standing in line to get one. Best donuts ever. In the morning, people would be lined up down the block to buy them.

I'm not reading back thru all the replies to see if I responded when this thread was first posted, so -
Up north - New York Cheescake from Sweetwaters Donut Mill
In Florida - either Key Lime or Maple Bacon from The Donut Experiment

I don't have a current favorite, but this thread is making me want to test out the new neighborhood DD drive-thru just to see how well they do the basic maple bar.
Purely scientific research, I assure you.

Best doughnut I had was from a little old coffee shop owned by an Asian man.He is the hardest working person and is getting older now so I can't imagine how much longer he will do this.He makes the doughnuts himself and a lot are made to order. His shop is always closed by three so that he can cook dinner at his other restaurant.
If you try to buy doughnuts after 12 noon there will be very few left to choose from so you have to line up early.

Why revive a year old thread? Just curious....
