Distracting! I have yet to see anyone in real life or on media, where that's not the first thing I see, and on which I stay focused!

I think it depends on the person and the lashes. I have friends that have them and they are fab. They add to the look and it works for them. I have a bestie that is a real live "glamazon" way over the top and that is what we adore about her. I have had some applied for important events and I was fine with them. I believe it is what ever makes you happy!

I must mention that even thick, over-done mascara can look like thick, 'dramatic' faux eyelashes.
Sometimes a bit less is more.

I can't quite get the hang of putting them on and looking natural on me so I just never wear them.
The only time that I wore false lashes was when I had a professional makeup artist do my makeup for my DD's wedding. She got them to look natural and attractive on me.

I have trouble putting my pants on...

Now that I'm thinking about it, I recall wearing faux eyelashes way, way back.
Was it in high school? I don't recall when.
But, they didn't seem overly distracting. I remember using some sort of glue.
I obviously haven't used them since that time.
I like the idea of the self-adhesive type as described here. I believe Kim Gravel's were mentioned.

I wore them for a while and loved the ease of not needing to worry with mascara, between that and microblading my brows I was in heaven. But then covid hit and I gave up both. I really don't miss them, they were so expensive to keep up.

@occasionalrain On people who know what size and style suits them, they look good. Sometimes i see a woman who looks like she has caterpillars on her eyes and that looks ugly.

I think the ones that are too long & curled up look tacky.

I think the super long ones look ridiculous. I don't know anyone who wears them that I know of. If they do, they are wearing very natural looking ones. I doubt I'd have the dexterity to apply them and have them look natural. I find the ones that are in sections to be the most appealing since I have rather small, round eyes, so the full ones would have to be cut to size.
