A smidgen of petroleum jelly spread onto the gasket of an old refrigerator door makes the seal air tight again.  Caution:  "A little dab will do you!"

This one is not a "repair," but I found it to be helpful.  Our 'new' house is twenty years old.  The kitchen cabinets do not go to the ceiling.  After scraping twenty years' worth of dust and grime from the tops of them, I lined the tops with waxed paper (brown paper would have worked, too, of course).  Now that the heavy cleaning has been done, all I have to do from now on is to change the paper.

This is a good thread, @cherry.

Spray Windex on fingers if you can’t get a ring off. Works wonders.

Wrong is still wrong just because you benefited from it.

Poking dull sewing needles into/out of a bar of soap will make hand stitching much easier.

A candle taper or a block of parrafun wax can work too. We have had the rainiest two months on record here and lots of problems with our front door....finally used a candle all over the bottom and the side near the lock....problem solved.

Re: Fast and easy fixes

I always keep WD-40 on hand...when I was teaching in an old building, I had to use it all the time to open old metal filing cabinets, door hinges, etc....or wait on a maintenance order that took a week or two.

If you get ballpoint ink on your shirt, spritz it with non-aerosol hairspray and blot with a paper towel...the ink will come right off

Sharpen scissors by cutting through aluminum foil.

I have so many pair and usually grab the Kuhn Ricon ones that self sharpen, so I've never had to sharpen any standard type scissors, but I would think to cut through several layers of aluminum foil would help to sharpen them.

I love this post, as you brought my Dad back to my memory tonight! HE would always tell me all the things that a little bees wax could repair! And I had forgot about that until now!! I sure miss the wisdom of that great guy! Thanks for the memories!!

After using a SOS pad, rinse well, put in a zip-lock bag. Put it in the freezer and it won't rust. You can use it over and over.
