Etta James for sharing her uplifting and soulful spirit through song.
I LOVE Etta James - GREAT choice. I saw her twice in concert in two small venues - up close. She put on an amazing show.

I do admire a lot of older women who are not well known, but I can't thnk of anyone alive today that fits the "well known" category.

Sandra Day O'Connor
Condoleezza Rice
Mother Theresa
Golda Meir
Barbara Bush
Sr. Jean Kevin (my ninth grade teacher who had a great sense of fun, and made history come alive).
My Mom, who before she was married supported her parents, and was a Wave in WWII.
My grandmother, who emigrated to this Country at age 13 by herself, to send money home to support her family.
My great aunt, who had to flee the land of her birth due to a genocide that took a number of her family, and later lived through WWII in an occupied country.

@MarieIG- my list is The same as your public figures but I'd add Millicent Fenwick who was a New Jerseyan & Laura Bush who is younger than I but is an older woman

Admire, current tense----at this moment, no one comes to mind. The women I did admire, are gone now.
