Yes, the pets should be put in a bedroom or boarded. Human family is more important. A few hours is fine for a pet to be confined so the family can have a good visit. Yes, the child should have therapy for their extreme fear. Until that happens confine the pets. They will survive, not a big deal.

It's the dogs home...

My daughter and son-in-law have one dog that I'm kind of a little leery of but I would never expect them to lock her up while I was there.

Humans were given dominion over the animals which means people come first and this thread shows that not all have gotten the memo. Unfortunate that some have their priorities confused.

My priorities in my home are not confused

It's unfortunate that some don't understand human/pet relationship.  Perhaps if they did we wouldn't see so many animals in dangerous and neglectful situations.

I don’t know why someone here always goes out of her way to insult other posters.

My animals have always been family.

In this case, the OP mentioned that her son is autistic. Given the situation, I would hope that the hosting family tries to find a way to make an accommodation for him. I would not just dismiss his fear of dogs.

I'm wondering who made the supposed rule that humans were given dominion over animals. Given? By whom?

Eta: family and friends are always given precedence in my house. We have no problem crating our dog when we have company especially our older and very young family members. I think the dog is much more comfortable and calm away from the hustle and bustle of a house full of humans who are not THEIR humans.

My child is horribly afraid of dogs.  He's had this problem for years and it's regardless of what type of dog or whose dog it is.  He refuses to go near them.

Going out in public where dogs are allowed, he steers clear of them...WIDELY.

My question to you is this:  If you were hosting a family get-together where you hardly ever see someone who is afraid of a pet, would you find a place for your pet to hang out so your family member can come to visit you on a holiday?

Or would you not ask them to come?

Even if all other family was coming?

NO!  The dog is my family member and if someone doesn't want to partake in a family event, so be it!

Yes, I could put my pets in our heated garage with a new bone for a short

time if company comes that are not dog people or afraid of animals.

Dogs are my famiy and our best friends, always give all their love and

companionship. Maybe some posters, not the OP, never experienced that,

what a shame.
