Didn't family members compromise her surgery by feeding her bites of a hamburger against medical advice? I don't recall if they gave her other foods, too, or not.
Certainly, if the surgery was difficult in any way, the family should have followed directives or used some common sense which they clearly lack.

I guess these are the kinds of things that will be determined in a trial.

I think news articles stated that nurses were told that Jahi was bleeding and no one responded in an efficient manner.

Unfortunately, she's not being 'kept alive'...she's been dead for over a year. And she wasn't @ a 'healthy weight' during the time of surgery. The pictures before her surgery shows an obese child...which might have been cause for complications.

At first I totally supported her family - seemed to be conflicting reports in terms of Jahi being brain dead, brain damamged, etc. so I could empathize with the mom.
But now this is just a macabre situation. Is there a reliable report about Jahi bleeding but nurses ignored? I haven't followed this all the way but I question how much is fact vs. what the family wants to believe.
And I also thought Jahi was not at a healthy weight as another poster said she was.
I like to think of Jahi with that great big smile and not in her current state.

It doesn't matter if the patient is dead or alive in a malpractice suit.
It matters somewhat.
A dead person cannot sue. If she is acknowledged to be dead, the family can sue for wrongful death. They would be entitled to compensation for loss of love, companionship etc. If a person were still alive, they would have a claim for pain and suffering, medical expenses etc.
It brings up an interesting legal conundrum. If Jahi is listed as the plaintiff through her parents and is alleged to be alive, there will be that death certificate to deal with. Very interesting how this will play out.

It's Jeri the cynical, of course, they're suing. I thought they did this a while ago. Get a job.
