At our little county 4-H fair, I only remember getting something to eat a handful of times. Just never thought about it or questioned it. As I recall, the things I did eat were from local clubs/organizations (Elephant Ears from the Lions Club, etc.). I've only been to the state fair once and that was as a young adult. I don't remember if I had anything to eat there or not.

I remember going to the fair as a kid, but don't remember the food. My parents bought us whatever we wanted, so I'm sure we had something. A couple years ago I was on a work trip and we went to a state fair. My co-workers tried to out do each other with odd foods. I don't do odd and had the fried dough.

Funnel cakes are very popular at PA fairs. Yummy.

The only thing I ever wanted at the fair was a SnoCone. Everyone else liked Cotton Candy but bring on the flavored ice for me.

When I was growing up, we always got popcorn or cotton candy. That was about it.

My daughter and I went to a fair last week, but because we were doing the vegetarian version of the General Motors diet at the time and trying hard to stick to it, we just got drinks.

BTW, we didn't really lose any weight on the GM diet (it's just for 7 days) but we have been generally eating more healthy ever since. It really influenced our day to day choices.

My favorite thing to get now at fairs are fried vegetables with ranch dip. I don't think the frying makes the veggies healthy at all, but they sure do taste good. My favorites are fried broccoli and fried carrot sticks. Yum, yum.

We lived in many places but I don't recall being near enough to attend a state fair so I've never been to one. The NM State Fair starts at the end of next week but I'm just not interested in going. I'm not above eating some junk but deep fried Snickers Bars just don't appeal to me. I rarely eat anything at outdoor events.

I still don't know what a corn dog is.

Corn Dogs

Brothers Carl and Neil Fletcher are credited for creating this American classic. They were former vaudeville actors who, in 1942, sold the first corndogs at a Texas state fair. Now the food is a favorite of state fairs everywhere. And we’d be hard pressed to find a grocery freezer aisle that doesn’t have some form of corn dogs.

YUMMO! And, like AuntG, SnoCones! Dad would always get me a candied apple and I'd bite/break the candy off ad eat the apple. Didn't like that hard candy coating. LOL
