Although they have no security or privacy there is 14 detailed steps on how to delete your account. They do NOT make it easy!
Mark Z is laughing all the way to the bank $$$$$
Are you kidding? I heard it said only a day or so ago that not only is he a multi-billionaire, but he is the "most powerful man in the world" and that includes everyone, presidents, dictators . . . everyone.
No I am NOT kidding! He IS laughing all the way to the bank with the billions of dollars he made from a social media platform because folks have a need to post every ridiculous facet of their life online.

@DiAnnewrote:I don't know why people are surprised.
I'm not surprised at all. I always knew the "social" sites would be a mixed bag. The only one I use is FB and I think I'm going to put it on hold for a while. I saw instructions this morning on NBC what to do if you have a lot of personal info and apps on your FB account. It was very mind boggling to find that if you want to quit altogether, FB makes you fill out all kinds of forms before they "approve" it, and sometimes it takes months.
You can't call them . . . the best info you can get is on Google as to how to personally control the site, and that's very limited. My beloved sister had an account and she will be gone seven years this August. No one knows her username and password, so we can't delete it. That's unacceptable to me.
As it is turning out, my feeling is it has become more of a detriment and even a danger than just a "fun" thing for college kids, which is how it started. Life has changed since this obsession and it's going to get worse. I could say a lot more that can't be said.
My opinion only, of course.
@LilacTree...I think posting here is no different than Facebook. We put out information and the entire internet can see it. Facebook at least has privacy settings.

My membership lasted about two days way back in the beginning. I knew that FB was not for me @deepwaterdotter

I wouldn't put any personal info on Twitter either.
No way.

We can be tracked not only through fb but also out spending habits, shopper's discount cards and personal preferences. Don't blame fb for giving out personal information, we do it all day everyday. We don't know anyone's real name here on the forums but we tell enough about ourselves while posting to be on equal footing with fb.

I deactivated my Facebook account months ago, but as we all know the data is retained forever. It is never permanently deleted...ever.

What's the difference between fb and the fashion forums with several poster downloading their outfits along with their faces and background pictures of their homes?
Pick any forum here on QVC and people are giving out much too much personal information about their lives starting with where they live.

Want to know what MZ thinks of you/FB users? Google his name and "dumb *uckers" and you will see. If Google has censored the article, then try a different search engine like "Duck duck go." Should pull up.
He thinks he is better than you, me and any other average Jane/Joe. He also sold off his stock in FB before the market tanked leaving investors holding the bag. Lawsuits, lawsuits, lawsuits.
People are correct, your info is sold to the highest bidder but you don't have to hand it over so easily either.

@JaneMarple I think we are in complete agreement. It's so easy to get caught up here and share. I even have read posters talk about income and investments..almost to the penny. Then photos that link right to their Facebook account.
I am am not criticizing their sharing rather that posting here can be even more shared than I have ever seen on Facebook. Posters here give tours of their home and photos of their own personal jewelry collection.

Yes, it's kind of a stereotype that every FB user blasts their personal info 24/7.
I'm only on FB because of my friends who live across the country and because I want to be in the groups, many are local buy-and-sell groups, I found our wonderful handyman through these groups, there are a LOT of people who use FB responsibly without leaking intimate details of their lives......I am very private but still able to use FB to benefit myself and make it work for me without compromising my privacy.
It can be done.
