As many of you know, I am a retired high school teacher and love working with color and people.

Having left my last position of almost five years (in an anchor store where I was very succesfull) becaude I was in a toxic situation, I am looking for another position, preferably at a boutique.

This afternoon, while returning something in a store I was speaking with the customer in front of me about a boutique I love at is privately owned.  She told me she had just learned on their facebook they were looking for someone!  I really like everyone there and they call out my name when I come in.  I was thrilled!  I go to fill out an application tomorrow.

As long as you don't let anyone be your friend whom you do not know, I'm thinking that I should join facebook.

Also, there are FB retail pages I want to see at times.

I don't have family out of town or need FB for any reason like that.

Thank you for your help!

Some people don't have "friends" and just use it get promotional information, and to like certain sites. Just set your privacy to where people can't see your page.

My DD set me up to keep track of her.  I'm scared of it, but do like seeing the stuff on there.  One of these days I'll figure it out.

Fate whispers to her, "You cannot withstand the storm." She whispers back, "I am the storm."

Only you can know that.   I tried it, a number of years ago, and found that I did NOT need it, so I stopped.    It was just kind of silly to me.   But I don't begrudge it others, who have different needs than I.  Smiley Happy

But do hear this - There are a number of privacy and security settings.  If you join, you REALLY need to go through all those settings with a fine-tooth comb and set it up.  Otherwise, you have no privacy and it can be a nightmare.

Furthermore, I'm not convinced that even with the tightest of privacy/security settings there you are REALLY getting the high degree of privacy that some of us may require.

Need? Well it is a good way to stay in touch with those you know, especially if you do not see them often. It's a great way to be in touch with the world...read up on almost anything. I also love beauty and I learn a lot by reading reviews or receiving discount coupons all coming through on your feed.

I love, love, love Facebook and i constantly tell Mark that he has united the world for the  good. If not for FB I would never have seen my beautiful great grandkids or even my much loved Grandaughters and grand son that lives across across the country. We just cannot vist across the nation. I even get to see my beloved deceased sisters family and keep in close touch with them.

I keep informed of whats going on the the world around me too.

Why does anyone think it is anymore dangerous than posting here in QVC's site?  In fact you have more controll over your privacy on FB than you do here on the Q site. Google yourself and you will see every post you ever wrote here .......lol

FB is a gift from God as far as I am concerned. ..and I bless Mark daily for having started it  <3

Re: Facebook? Do I Need It?

[ Edited ]

I was reluctant to use FB for a long time too.  However, when my cousin was critically ill, they kept everyone up to date putting info on facebook.  That way they didn't have to call repeating the same info over and over.  Recently my SIL was diagnosed with breast cancer and she is also keeping friends and family up to date on her treatments and condition on facebook as well.  My family members are scattered all over the country and we almost never get together so it works well to use something like FB.

I was able to connect with some old friends from high school that I haven't seen for almost 50 years but it has also been nice to catch up with them.

You can limit the personal info that you include in your profile, you don't have to friend anyone you don't know, and you never have to post anything if you don't want to.  I don't believe there is anything to fear from it if you use some of the security features and also use it responsibily yourself.

I have a FB page but I only use it for informational purposes.  I have no friends and all my security settings are high.  I like following different groups and seeing what others have to say.

Make sure you use a phony name.  I have two emails, one I use for purchasing, FB , etc. and one I give out for real email.

I started using FB when I was teaching and would notify students of classwork that they missed due to absences.  Never friended a student.

Now that I am retired, our YMCA uses FB to notify if there are closings or class cancellations.

My main use of FB is to message people who I know and to get recipes.  There are wonderful recipes on FB.

If you sign up, make sure to use the privacy settings.

I have friends who put every part of their lives on FB, but I think that is such a dangerous practice.  Be very careful in how you use it and you will be fine.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!
