It is a huge relief for all us in that vicinity. The roads were closed about 2 miles from me. @Kachina624 I agree that it was way too close for comfort, I hope your sister and all of us can now get back to our "normal" lives. Big Kudos to LE. Alot of people were calling them an embarrassment, but could any of the naysayers do that job?
It look longer than we wanted it to, but in the end they got the job done with none of them being injured in the process.

@Marp I don't think anyone thinks he shouldn't be punished. I don't think he should be sent back to Brazil., but I suspect prison life here is better than it is in Brazil

@arizona babe wrote:@Teddixat How totally irresponsible of you to say you will pray for him and all prisoners- its just plain simple you break the law in any way and you pay the price- this guy does not deserve anything, to include water, food, a bed or a trial- he put too many people in danger for his stupidity- so no no prayers for him or anyone else that breaks the law
Even though she said pay not pray, it is not irresponsible to pray for all sinners....that would be everyone one because we all sin.
Most religions ask us to pray for all people...even sinners and forgive them.
No where does it mention letting them go free. If they are dangerous to society, they need to be kept locked up.
I will pray this man finds God and repents for his evil wrong doings. I will pray for his victims and their families and his family too.

They should be lauded. They did policing right. They were not sent out after this escaped murderer to judge, convict, jail or execute him. That's not their job. The fact this went on for so long but no one in the community or on the police force or even the escapee himself were killed or injured tells me they handled the situation with complete professionalism.

@Teddixat, I fully agree that prison life here is much better than prison life in Brazil but several posters have expressed that he should just be sent back.
Either they don't know he murdered Deborah Brandao here in the U.S. or they don't care as long U.S. tax dollars aren't used to keep him imprisoned. To me that line of thought diminishes the tragedy of the killer and the effect on the children and other family members.

@Mindy D Has Brazil asked him to be extradited? Or can they try him in absentia? I wonder if the US would be obligated to send him back.
@ValuSkr @Sorry, but I don't know. If Brazil wants to save money, they might as well forget about a trial.
@Kachina624 @ValuSkr We do have a mutual extradition agreement with Brazil.
An arrest warrant had been issued locally in Brazil at the time he murdered his friend but was never sent to the national registry. He left Brazil freely since authorities were not looking for him.
He is scheduled sometime in October for a trial in Brazil but I doubt Brazil will ask for an extradition.
I think he's just our problem now and Brazil really doesn't consider him worth the time, effort, and expense.
Plus a life sentence in Brazil is not guaranteed.
Edit spelling.🫤
@Cakers3. Prisoners who have a propensity and talent for escape, tend to try it repeatedly. Jail guards call them "rabbits" because they love to run. This guy is obviously very good at it. Want to bet that we haven't heard the last of him?

@Teddixat. Said PAY, not pray.

@songbird Yes,...she assisted her brother (who is here illegally) after he stabbed his girlfriend 38 times to death here because the girlfriend was going to report him to police. The girlfriend found out he had a warrant for murder in Brazil. You can find out more about the abuse and violence in their relationship if you google.
I just wish we didn't have to pay for his existence.

@Marp I can understand...it is despicable that Deborah Brandao was stabbed to death (as well as living a life of abuse and violence according to her accounts) in front of her young children while screaming at them to run and get help. No one refutes the horror of this reality. Justice for the man he murdered in Brazil is also in order.
I'm sure his stay in a Brazilian prison would not be a pleasurable experience. If he stays here, US citizens end up footing his bill for life...to add insult to injury. We pay for his ghoulish contribution to our country! I'm sure there exists a hearty tab just for his capture. He should not have been here to begin with. Yes, he should "be done".

What the heck, just another immigrant killed by an illegal so let's not pursue justice for the victim and her family, just send the killer back to his native country and be done.
