  Our taxes now get to pay for his life in prison unless he is extradited to the country he had escaped from...Brazil.  The concern is that he will be released from a Brazilian prison at some point if he is extradited and he could escape to our country again.  If not, we get to pay for his life in our prison.  A no win situation.  I wish this hunt ended differently.

It was good work by law enforcement. They deserve credit. They got him without incident. Nobody else was hurt.

@Kachina624 @ValuSkr   We do have a mutual extradition agreement with Brazil.

An arrest warrant had been issued locally in Brazil at the time he murdered his friend but was never sent to the national registry. He left Brazil freely since authorities were not looking for him.

He is scheduled sometime in October for a trial in Brazil but I doubt Brazil will ask for an extradition. 

I think he's just our problem now and Brazil really doesn't consider him worth the time, effort, and expense.

Plus a life sentence in Brazil is not guaranteed.

Unfortunately you are right our taxes will pay for an illegal for life.   Brazil issued a warrant for his arrest in 2017 for another murder.  He has a history of abuse and violence.  Because the US is concerned he won't live out his prison term in Brazil, it was decided to keep him here.  Aren't we the lucky ones!  👎🏻
