No. For we Italians it’s a good day to drink Grappa.
Okay, any day is, but today especially.

I stayed home because a good neighbor has come down with Covid. My husband recently helped the neighbor around his yard, so I am being cautious, just in case...I have been vaccinated and have had one booster shot, but still, I could get the virus. I don't want to be among other people and risk spreading it.
Actually, I guess I am a little bit superstitious though.

I never truly bought into the hype, but it has always been a fun kind of "spooky" day for me. I would always watch Friday the 13th movies on tv. I even caught part of one this year.
However, that date will also be forever ingrained in my mind as the day teaching as I once knew it was changed forever.
On Friday, March 13, 2020 most schools shut down for the remainder of the school year due to Coronavirus. We were there that day as we always were but there was a lot of talk and uncertainty about what was going on. Cases had started to pop up on Long Island and people were freaking out. Schools were starting to take two-week "breaks" and there was lots of buzz in the building. It was hard to focus on teaching that day.
After school was over, we all said our usual, "have a nice weekend" comments and drove off. My phone started going crazy with alerts and texts to the point where I had to actually pull over because I knew something was wrong. When I checked my phone, I found out that all of the surrounding school districts were shutting down. Mine eventually closed down as well later that evening.
The next several days were filled with confusion, chaos, and uncertainty that went on months. We were allowed back into the building to retrieve our things in June. Everything was frozen in time from that date - Friday, March 13th. There were projects from St. Patrick's Day on tables that I had left to dry for the weekend. Kids' water bottles were left on the tables, jackets were left in closets, materials for the following week were organized and ready to go, etc. It was all very odd and many of us broke down crying. Needless to say, nothing has been the same since that Friday, the 13th.
I know that's not the answer you were expecting, but that's what popped up in my mind when you asked. I think it's going to take some time for that memory of that particular date to fade...
