FIRST CLASS STAMP INCREASE AUG. 29

Goes from 55 cents to 58 cents. Post card rate also increases.

When can we get rid of the Postmaster General?

Even with the increased costs, the USPS is worth it!  I've said it many times that the Constitution mandates the postal service; no geographic region is omitted; no matter the conditions and terrains, they deliver to everyone; the employees are critical for business, family connections, etc; and they are fundamental to democracy.  Despite all of the attempts to undermine the service, the service and its employees remain true to their duties and responsibilities.

It is the only entity in government (and many private companies and industries) that is required to full fund its pension systems several generations into the future.  Hence, one of the reasons they run deficits.

The governing board has new members and the quorum needed to retain or recommend dismissal of the current director is now possible.  Trying to avoid poofing with this language.

Re: FIRST CLASS STAMP INCREASE AUG. 29

Thanks for the heads up, @Pearlee .  I send "just a note" cards out frequently.  I love matching my stamps to the stationary and also to the season.

DH still mails our bill payments, so I always keep a sheet of stamps in his office, as well.

I will definitely now have a good excuse to buy some cool new ones!

I saw that yesterday. A sheet of stamps will last me years because I mail almost nothing. A few birthday and Christmas cards. All bills are paid online. Maybe some of the junk mail will stop or at least be reduced.

Ridiculous. Price increase coupled with slooow delivery means sending no Christmas cards this year. Many of my cards, mailed Dec 1, reached destination 3-4 weeks after Christmas.

All our bills are paid on line and I don't even mail birthday cards any more.  I make it a point to see the birthday person.

If I mail 3 things a year it's a lot.

Well, I don't like service companies having my CC number or checking account access, but I guess I'll be paying online shortly.

Re: FIRST CLASS STAMP INCREASE AUG. 29

I understand the Postal Service business structure, but I truly believe it needs an overhaul.  My first three recommendations:  delete weekend deliveries of all kinds.  Mail should be delivered between Monday to Friday.  Then, re-negotiate the sweetheart deal with Amazon.  And lastly, stop with the small rate increases.  Go up in five cent increments for first class. The postal workers can only do so much.  They are courteous and knowledgeable.  But give them something to work with.
