FDA Recalls Sportmix Dog Food after 28 dogs died

At least 28 dogs have died and more dogs are ill from consuming Sportmix Dog Food. The FDA has recalled Sportmix Dog Food due to high levels of a toxin called Aflatoxin found in the food. Aflatoxin is a toxin produced by a mold called Aspergillus Flavus that has been found in the food. The mold can be present in the food and be invisible to the naked eye. Aflatoxin can cause death and serious long-term illness in pets. If your pet has been poisoned by Sportmix Dog Food, it was recommended that your pet should see a vet immediately.

You may want to visit the FDA website for further details and information.

There needs to be better controls, on dog food. This is just terrible.

Sue them, imprison those responsible, and shut the company down. This kind of laxity is all too common with pet food companies. Maybe if some of these corporate heads who allow this to happen over and over again spend some time behind bars they'll think again about letting this happen.

Yes, exactly this!   This is so maddening.   I cannot imagine why something like this can happen to food products and I also cannot even imagine the heartbreak of having your pet die because of the food you purchased, innocently and appropriately expecting that it will not endanger him/her.

I wonder if there is any control at all.   I've never heard of this brand.  I wonder where it's made.
