That sad fact is that "they" knew the ingredients were unsafe before the first product was ever manufactured.

I don't know that for certain .... who knew what or when they knew ..... but I do know consumers can be too quick to fall for sales tactics and buy into fads without doing their own research. Big business counts on it.

Theoretically it shouldn't, since the vast majority of people don't use those nearly as much as soaps to wash hands and body.   Whatever is in them shouldn't be as detrimental  regarding the "tolerance/intolerance to bacteria" factor since they aren't used nearly as frequently..
