Many of our calls are spoofed so I was happy to read this.
Excerpt from USA Today, Money Section, - -
“Telecom providers are working with industry groups currently on the testing of the “digital fingerprints” that will enable phone companies to verify whether calls are legitimate or spoofed. Meanwhile, more than 500 apps are available for smartphones to help block calls.”
“Regulators might need tougher penalties for illegal robocallers, as well as longer statues of limitation to give them more time to investigate possible offenders, forum attendees said. In the meantime, consumers should continue to notify the FTC and FCC about robocall complaints at their websites (ftc.gov/calls and fcc.gov/robocalls).

I'll believe it when I hear it.
Meanwhile, I'm not disabling nomorobo.

Yeah, right.

If people wouldn’t answer them they would stop over time on their own.

I literally did a snoopy dance on my desk. Please stop them. There is no reason in today's day and age they can't develop technology to reverse engineer these idiots.
I literally hang up on 2-3 calls a day because I don't want the voicemails (it eats up my limited talk minutes) and I've stopped reporting because it would literally be a part time job.

Wasn't that the promise with the "no call list"? I have no faith this will help.

Suuuuure. Just like when you registered on the Do Not Call List it was supposed to stop unwanted calls. I think all that did was create more.

I will appreciate anything they can do.
The volume of our robos come in waves. We just don't answer unless we recognize the number or our answering machine starts recording. We have nomorobo and number blocking, both help a lot.
The latest "craze" we are getting now is from number spoofing or phishing. Scammers using local area codes and exchanges.
Yesterday, I got one. I looked up the number and it was a fax number for a local business. I just happened to know the individual who owns the business so I called to alert her the number was being used. Unfortunately I don't think there is much she can do about it, but I just wanted to let her know the number was being used this way.

@Allegheny That's my issue. As soon as a local number comes in that is not in my contacts, I hang up on it. It's getting to be an all day event. If you google it, a lot of times there is report of it being a scam number.

@LipstickdivaThey used it as a data base to obtain additional numbers. ![]()
