Re: FAVORITE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE?

@Sooner
I love the images you are describing, as I've never been to Oklahoma. I would so love to see a combine working in a wheat field!
@Oznell
Thank you for posting such spectacular photos. What a lovely and upbeat idea for a thread. We can all agree this is an astoundingly beautiful country.
Born and raised in California but my favorite landscape is the Grand Tetons. Breathtaking...and the most clear lakes I have ever seen.
Happy Fourth of July to all! 🎆

Re: FAVORITE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE?

Im going to vote for monument Valley which straddles both Arizona & Utah.

Another vote for Hawaii - everything's beautiful there.

Re: FAVORITE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE?

@MarnieRez3 Those big old combines are something!  I used to ride in one with my dad and drive it sometimes.  You can see a lot of nature from up there, and that header going around and around below you.

You could see skips sometimes in the field where if he saw a bird's nest on the ground my dad would pull the header up and leave the wheat or beans around the nest.

Late at night working with the big lights on you would see all kinds of animal eyes glowing out in the dark or coyotes running along side to grab a startled mouse or rabbit.

Fantastic imagery! I have never seen a wheat field, let alone rode a tractor. (I sound like a lyric from the old song, "Well, I've never been to Spain...") 🩵😆🎶

I love anywhere along the Central Coast area of California, where you see the ocean to the west and the mountains to the east.

@september  oh my YES!!  The coastal area from Oregon to San Diego is a feast for the eyes.  Iam especially fond of a few miles along the PCH where the coast is clearly visible.  Coming into Ventura, Malibu, etc.  And the area on Hiway 1, from Davenport to Big Sur.   Every month of the year it has different colors. Then a total change of the coast is the sight going north on the Highway 1.  That area is a rockier cliffs, more violent water, crashing waves. Another great site for senses.

I'm in CA a few hours from the coast and  a few hours from the mountains, I do love the coast but the mountains are wonderful also.

Re: FAVORITE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE?

America is certainly a beautiful place.  The oceans, the mountains, the deserts and everything in between.

One place I was recently so impressed with was The Shenandoah Valley area in Virginia.  I saw farm after farm, not so much mountains, but huge rollings hills and greenery and wildlife. We drove all thru the national park and stopped at many of the overlooks.  So beautiful.

Being from NJ, I also give a shout out to the Jersey shore, especially LBI and Island Beach State Park.  Though I no longer live in NJ, it is my home State, and I will always remember the beautiful parts of NJ, and there are many.

The Great Lakes!!  I've lived by them all my life and never realized how beautiful they are til I got older.  I guess that's the way when we live close to beauty.  We take it for granted.

God Bless our beautiful country!! Thanks for all your pics!

Re: FAVORITE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE?

I love the Banyan tree in Lahaina Hawaii & I read it’s coming back.

Not scenery but I live abroad part of the year & when I fly home, I still get emotional when I see the Statue of Liberty; I’ve always loved her. I see the NYC skyline every day from our home & I still think it’s beautiful, especially sunsets.

@MarnieRez3 Look up Insane West Texas Wheat Harrvest Yields on You Tube and you can experience see the working view from the cab of a big John Deere combine at work!

And when he talks about digging out--sometimes that header digs into the soil and gets clogged and you have to get out and literally dig the dirt and wheat out.

Where I lived we farmed in a large river bottom area, with trees and hills neaby.  Boy is it flat in this video!  I can't imagine living there.  Can't imagine back in the 1940's and 50's working without the cab and all that chaff flying around to breath.
