Re: FACES OF THE.GREAT DEPRESSION

Thank you for posting these poignant photos, Oznell. Never forget our history, no matter how difficult it was at that time.

Re: FACES OF THE.GREAT DEPRESSION

@781Florist You bring tears to my eyes!  What you said is so very very true.  There are still lots of places where kids are just assumed they can't go to college, won't get a good job, and people don't see this.

And yes, good people, willing to work.  Makes me angry when society lets freeloaders get help these people need and don't have a shot at.

Thanks for your excellent and heartfelt response.

Re: FACES OF THE.GREAT DEPRESSION

1. Most every state requires students are taught History and Civics. Not sure where this new "history is not being taught" is coming from, but I can guess.

2. Poverty exists in the US in large numbers in certain states (mostly ALL in the South). A large percentage of wealthier state taxes are funnelled into the poor states for all kinds of programs- food, health, education, housing. In the meantime, taxpayers in wealthier states have lost the ability to deduct their real estate taxes and now pay more to prop up the poorer states. Talk to the leaders of the poor states and ask them why they keep their citizens in poverty, preside over lousy schools (but dang sure make sure there are bible verses in the classroom) and refuse to expand health care to those who can't afford it.

3. By the grace of God we didn't slip into another depression after the covid pandemic and meltdown of our economy in 2020. We learned our lesson from the Depression and now have safety measures in place to keep people from losing everything.

4. My grandfather worked for the WPA and helped to build the Merritt Parkway. That job launched his very successful career in construction.Thank goodness for a government and leadership who had the foresight to HELP rather than hurt.

Oh the stories my family could tell. The poverty was the least of it. Thanks for sharing, @Oznell

Re: FACES OF THE.GREAT DEPRESSION

I remember a vison of my Mother standing in line with some kind of stamps for food? She use to put cardboard inside my shoes, because I had a hole in the sole of my shoe.

My Father when he was a young man was sent to the CC camp in Northern Calif. to get work in the forest and the money he got was sent home to support us.

Kids today, really in my opinion, do not know the meaning of hard work.

People came together for their neighbors. Everyone looked out for the each other.  Of course, my memory could be a little blurred, so very long ago.
