If you are a FB friend with someone and you send them a message and than de-friend them do they still get the message you sent?????

A co=worker has an ex brother inlaw as a friend she sent him a nice email telling him why she was going to deleat him as a FB friend ( she now has a boyfriend) so she sent the email and than de-friended him. Would he still get her message???

She is now worried that if he did not get her message and see's she has deleated him he would be hurt. She still wants to be friendly just not FB friends where he can she posts about the new boyfriend Thanks
