Re: FAA Orders Temporary Grounding of Some Boeing 737 MaX 9 Airplanes

On our news last night they reported that a child had been sitting there and his shirt was pulled off of his body.  They said his mother was hanging onto him so he wouldn't get pulled out of the plane.

That is so frightening.  The fear that must have went through those passengers.

Re: FAA Orders Temporary Grounding of Some Boeing 737 MaX 9 Airplanes

My dad was a commercial airline pilot and flew the 737 as well as 727s.

I was on a 16 passenger plane flying out to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas a few years ago. It was a white knuckle trip when I saw daylight through one of the seams in the wall next to my seat 😬  I don't have a fear of flying. It's a lot safer form of transportation then driving.  My brother and I both took flying lessons in our Cessna 150 when we were 16 and 17. My brother did great and got his licenses . I did great until it was time to land. I did not get my license 😳

I could still fly, I just had to have a licensed pilot with me.

Saw this today!

Boeing wants FAA to exempt Max 7 from safety rules to get it in the air

BY DOMINIC GATES

SEATTLE TIMES

Little noticed, days before the holiday break, Boeing petitioned the Federal Aviation Administration for an exemption from key safety standards for the 737 Max 7 — the still-uncertified smallest member of its newest jet family.

Since August, earlier models of the Max currently flying passengers in the U.S. have had to limit use of the jet's engine anti-ice system after Boeing discovered a defect in the system with potentially catastrophic consequences.

The flaw could cause the inlet at the front end of the pod surrounding the engine — known as a nacelle — to break and fall off.

In an August Airworthiness Directive, the FAA stated that debris from such a breakup could penetrate the fuselage, putting passengers seated at windows behind the wings in danger, and could damage the wing or tail of the plane, 'which could result in loss of control of the airplane.'

Imo, the best aircraft was the Boeing 720.  Four engines, smooth ride.

That was when flying was like 'sitting in your living room'.

I don't fly. If I had to get on a place it won't be one of these? I saw a show streaming about these. Sounds like they should not be in the air period?

Nobody died only because they'd just taken off, were at 10,000ft and still had their seat belts fastened fortunately.  They were still in take off mode.   Some belongings were lost out the hole.

Lots of chatter here.  Locally we have always seen high planes when they are taking off to the west.  Too high to hear.  They do cover a lot of ground when they turn.

But they seem to be focusing on Barnes Rd. over a very built up area to the east.  Close to a big hospital.

Seems odd that they can't find the door.

BREAKING: United finds bolts that needed tightening on grounded Boeing Max 9 planes

United Airlines says it has found apparent installation issues, including bolts that needed tightening, in the door plug while inspecting its grounded Boeing 737 Max 9 planes. The panel is at the center of the investigation into the near-disaster aboard an Alaska Airlines flight.

On Sunday, National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy said that a missing door plug had been found in a backyard in Portland, a discovery that could help determine how it became detached from plane in midair.
