NY Daily News is reporting that the explosion followed a fire that started in a piano store at 1636 Park Ave.

On our local news, the owner of the small church on the ground floor of one of the 4-5 story residential buildings was interviewed. She said there was a gas leak problem in the area that was fixed a couple of months ago. She said last night she had smelled gas again and thought it was coming from a deli on one of the corners. She went in to advise the deli owner, who said he would check into it. She also said she knows all of the residents in the building and she hasn't been able to contact 4 of those residents by cell phone yet.

Metro-North trains have been suspended in both directions, probably at least for the rest of the day because they have to check the tracks for falling debris.

Anti-terrorism units have pretty much ruled out terrorism as a cause for the explosion, which is always the first fear of NYers these days when something like this happens.

The gas smell had been smelled for a few weeks; before anyone reported it.

Metro North is shut down for the time being at Grand Central Station before they check out their tracks (debris on them from the explosion) and checking out a viaduct, trains pass through.

Mayor of NYC is having a press conference now live on WCBS TV.

I think the area has been evacuated somewhat, but he keeps talking about how close he is-- he got into someone's office to interview them or something.
