Is 10/28 "Exploding Airplane Day?"
Weird...first an AA passenger plane then a FedEx plane.
The videos for both are so scary.
No serious injuries with both.
----------
Earlier today, an American Airlines plane with 170 people aboard caught fire at O’Hare Airport in Chicago. Everyone was evacuated alive, though there are some minor injuries. But now a second plane, this one operated by FedEx, has exploded at the Ft. Lauderdale airport in Florida.
It’s unclear what exactly caused the explosion of the plane that had just arrived from Memphis, the headquarters of FedEx. It’s believed that the landing gear may have malfunctioned. Crews were able to put out the fire, but it remains unclear if there are any injuries. Both pilots reportedly escaped before the explosion of the cargo plane, according to ABC News.
There’s so far no indication that the explosions in Chicago and Florida are connected in any way.

HUH?
I just flew in from Boston today and heard nothing about this. Yikes.

Reuters, all the 'initial' networks...CNN, NBC, MSNBC, FOX....they all reported it. Lots of footage on Twitter, etc.

I live in the Chicagoland area so we have extensive coverage but I have to say I am troubled with the amount of mishaps with airplanes lately be it physical or the folks actually flying the planes.
To be honest, I am glad I don't have to fly anymore.

Did they have any speculation what caused the AA fire?
I saw a video someone was filming (IknowIknow) while exiting the plane & sliding down that ramp. Eeps!

@sidsmom no net yet that I can find. I'll watch the 10 o'clock news and see if there is any additional details. I have to be honest, I was shocked when I saw the video earlier today . . . thank goodness for the pilot and the crew that everyone is safe and sound.

On the local news, they said the plane in Chicago had a flat tire and aborted takeoff.

I copied this over from the local NBC site:
The Federal Aviation Administration initially said a tire blew, but the airline later said in a statement it was an incident involving an engine.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it will investigate the incident, and described it as involving a tire blowout and fire.
It seems like we won't know what exactly happened for a while but boy those photos are frightening whatever happened and again God bless the flight crew that no one was harmed. ![]()

From CNN:
One of two engines on an American Airlines Boeing 767 failed Friday during an attempted takeoff at C...Debris was found up to half a mile away.
The 161 passengers and nine crew members scrambled to safety after flames erupted on the right side of the plane.
"This could have been absolutely devastating if it happened later," Airport fire Chief Timothy Sampey said.
About 20 people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Problem is reported as "uncontained engine failure", which when explained sounds horrific. Thankfully there were only minor injuries.
