Expiration Dates

What do you use after the date has expired? My family doctor told me that heart medicine and a few others should never be used after expiration but all other medicines it is ok....he said we throw away good medicine.

For food.......I always toss after expiration date...........do you? What do you keep after expiration that can be used with no issues?

Addendum: Only to discuss not recommend.
