A friend called me on Thursday and told me she and another co-worker got snow/iced in at work Wed. night and had to stay over. (we work in a hospital) She and this other co-worker live near each other and one of them picked the other up at her home. This has happened several times but only when these two women work together, which actually is rarely as one usually works nights. The husband of the one co-worker drove and dropped them off and would be back to pick them up after the shift was over. Well, he wasn't able to get out of his street to come and get them so they spent the night.

So, the husband of the co-worker comes to pick them up at 7am the next morning. On the way home he stops at a 7-11 for coffee. This isn't a far drive from the hospital and they were only a few miles from home. So, my friend tells me, he gets out of the car and looks back at my friend and says, "I think we know each other well enough, do you have any money for coffee"? So, she gives him $10.00 and he comes out with coffee and donuts. As my friend tells me this she starts to laugh, thinking it is funny. I didn't say anything at the time but I didn't think it was funny at all and thought he was looking for payback for driving her to work and back. I mean really, how does he not have money even for coffee and he has 3 kids at home, how do you not have some cash on hand in case you need it for them? Hhhmmm.

I have driven co-workers many times to and from work and never had any expectation that I was owed anything.

So, my question... do you think it was odd/strange/out of line for him to ask her for money? How does he not have even a money for coffee?

Do you expect something for doing something for another person?
