Good for the Texas prisons!![]()
In Texas, pigs live better than prisoners do, according to a lawsuit filed on behalf of prisoners. The Austin American-Statesman reported that in the Lone Star State prison system, pigs raised for prison consumption live in climate-controlled barns, but most prisoners endure temperatures that reach as high as 120 degrees inside the clink during summers. Almost none of Texas' inmate living areas have air conditioning, but the hogs they eat can relax under large fans and misters. And it's not just a comfort issue: In six years, at least 14 inmate deaths have been linked to extreme heat.
