Excellent documentary on HBO on demand

I just got done watching an EXCELLENT documentary on domestic violence. It was on HBO and they primarily followed an advocate (works with courts and victims) and victim on one case in particular where a woman was taken against her will on a cross country trucking trip by her husband and beaten along the way.

They cover other related topic areas like the fact that it affects all socio-economic strata. It was so powerful and really inspiring to hear how one woman had the devotion to be an advocate and a victim who had unbelievable strength to go thru with testifying against her abuser.

There are a lot of things I didn't understand about domestic violence that I do now. Like women who leave and then go back. It's so complicated and these guys do a number on their self esteem.

I know domestic violence also has male victims, but this documentary focused on women.

I highly recommend this film. It's called "Private Violence" and is just over an hour.

Saw it too, and I have to commend the woman that came out to win on the other side! Good for her!

I was someone who always wondered why the battered women go back. Now I see how relentless some of the men are.

What about the pregnant woman who was profiled in the beginning, stood up for herself and got her boyfriend arrested when he was on his way to the shelter, and then in the updates at the end it said she went back. It is so tragic.

Also the woman in court who was afraid for her life and her boyfriend in orange striped jail suit paused at the doorway and gave her a very harsh stare. And his attorney basically let him do it, she didn't make him get into the room.

The woman, Kit, who you referenced as winning her case was really something. Those photos of her all battered were horrible. And then when the other woman who was going to testify against the guy dropped out. I was so afraid Kit was going to drop out too or something bad was going to happen (intimidation by the cousin). But to her great credit she went thru with it and it worked out in her favor.

That guy's cousin must've been a real piece of work to witness the beatings given to Kit and not do anything about it -- and with the young daughter there too. Just unreal. I'm glad the cousin ended up getting 5 years as an accessory.

I'm so glad. It's very powerful and really shows what some go thru and how it takes such an emotional toll.
