@dulwich -
I'm sorry for the loss of your great friend.
Why not the hymn you both used to sing-
"All Things Bright and Beautiful"
This is one of my very favorites too![]()
Simple and beautiful.
And what a wonderful tribute that would be.

Thank you Ladies for all your kind and informative replies. This is a very sad day for us and when I shared this on the forum it felt very strange - us Brits usually keep to ourselves, stiff upper lip and all that - but I decided to ask the question I posted on the forum.
So glad I did as all the kind replies have definitely made a difference and have been very comforting. Lesson I learned today share and lots of compassion and thoughtfulness comes back. Thank you all.

I teach 7th grade. I can't count the questions I've been asked that have floored me. One, in particular stands out... when I was telling my class that George Washington is my hero and I admire him, one of my students asked if I knew him. 😳 I said, "No, wish I did but he was a couple of years ahead of me in school."
ETA: @dulwich I think I misinterpreted the intention of your OP. I didn't mean to make light of your loss. Please accept my condolences.

@dulwich , I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. It sounds like a wonderful friendship. And those seem to be rare.

DH & I went to a lawyer (estate planner & wills) a few months ago, since we have 1 child thought oh this is simple. We got most of it done until he asked about funeral. What kind of flowers, what color, songs, etc... I looked at my husband & I said I really could care less. I said I will be dead and won't know what is going on. Most of our family is getting smaller and hope by the time comes it will not be many people there. The lawyer said you will be suprised how clients have special requests and I have to ask these questions.

@dulwich , my sympathy for the lost of your good friend.
At my brother’s memorial, they played Louie Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. I love that song. Every time I hear it, I think of him. LM

@dulwich What a lovely spontaneous choice, done quite often lately around here at funerals and memorial services.
We have recently been dealing with the care of an elderly relative, and some of the “what should we do with....” questions have, in fact, left me totally speechless.

The kind that floors me, is when an obvious question is asked. The kind that Reader's Digest usually put into print.
