The FBI is investigating a basement apartment in the area that Etan was last seen. The case was re-opened 2 years ago.

Two people briefed on the investigation said that investigators had recently brought a cadaver-sniffing dog to the basement and that the dog indicated the possibility of remains.
“Obviously we’re hopeful that we’ll find evidence in the disappearance of Etan Patz,” said Tim Flannelly, an F.B.I. spokesman. “But the takeaway of this is that we’re committed to these types of investigations, as is the N.Y.P.D. And we’re trying to bring closure to the investigation and the family and we’re not going to be frustrated by time.”
