England in Final/Euro Soccer!

At last we are in the Final on Sunday with Italy. DH upset wanted to fly home to go but Covid restrictions not enough time to quarantine. But nice thing happened.

Our local, very good, Italian restaurant - big Italian family run it - called him to say they are doing special brunch/big screen t,v. for game Sunday so 'come on down you Brits and get beaten'. Love it. Now that's some talk cheered DH up a lot. Come on England!

It should be a good match. Denmark gave England a good scare, but England pulled out the win. Lots of soccer coming up with the Euro finale, then the Olympics, then the new Premier League season starting in August.

Have a good time on Sunday.

My son has been taping all the games.

Several years ago we were in Houston for a wedding. We found an English restaurant (Red Lion Pub) in Houston via Diner, Drive-ins and Dives. Went there to eat and while we were there we found out they also had special events for the World Cup games.

So it worked out that my husband and son got to watch the game at the restaurant and enjoy the food and adult beverages. They had a WONDERFUL time.

We are watching Wimbledon and the stands are half full. The rest of the fans are getting ready for the soccer game. They even showed a guy in the English jersey intently watching his phone.

I'm an Italian who wants England to win! Both teams have been playing great! But I'm an Anglophile at heart. It's been a wonderful day for England (Richard Branson) and win for them would be wonderful.

In the U.S., this is a dud. Soccer (not called football the way nearly every country in the world does) is just not that popular for men. Mostly because of the low quality of players we have. Players that are just not that good wind up in the U.S. Plus the woman's game is lights years more popular. The small stature of the players (5'6" seem to be average height for players in South America). Also the ties allowed, makes for a sometimes boring game. It's also a bad game for TV because the style of play. So I don't think it will ever gain popularity here. But the rest of the world, Soccer (or football please) is like a religion. Even wars have started over disputes in soccer. New immigrants have gain some interest in it. My father loved soccer (the Italian team naturally!) and missed not seeing the game here.

I'll be torn between rooting for England and Italy.
