I could never live without my dog --- but I would never take advantage by ""pretending"" that she's a service dog. It's like people who use a placard that was given to ""other"" people who are disabled -- just so they can park in front of shops/restaurants. Then they walk around the stores for an hour.

These people are making it hard for people like me who are litgit. My dog is a Therapy petting dog. I carry the papers and the volunteer badge with her picture and mine and her hospital badge with me. I do not take her in restaurants or grocery stores. She goes to hospitals and nursing homes for sick or elderly people to pet if they choose to do so. She is a paws for healing dog. Her registered papers, vest, my shirt, lesh, etc cost me around 200 dollars. Two weekends of training and one month at the hospital. She goes into the ER also. The DR.s and nurses love to pet these dogs because of their stress level. The patients love it also. Some have pets they miss. My dog is a 16 lb. Poodle mix. She is not for my therapy, but for others. Also it is against the law to put an animal in a shopping cart. These people are making it a sham. On the way home from a volunteer day, I might have to stop at the mall to pick up an item, and if it is sunny, I cannot leave her in a hot car, so I bring her in the department store. Many times I have been stopped, so I pull out the badge and papers for proof. I agree, what they are doing is not right and the real ones have to take the blame when we are really helping people.

Yes, there is such a thing and yes, there are people who need them. If you're working and someone comes in with a "service" animal, all we can ask is whether it's a service animal or not, we can't ask to see "the letter". There are people who yes need these animals and unfortunately there are people who don't and just "work the system". It's getting harder and harder to work with the public, someone's always trying to "work the system" and not follow the rules, it's frustrating.
