While presenting the new Lug mini-backpack tonight, Shawn mentioned that Amy would be going to the Emmy award show. Amy said that the celebrities would receive Lug items in their "gift bags."
Years ago I read an article that listed the "gifts" celebrities get. They ranged from extravagant gifts to two-week vacations.
Most of these celebrities can well afford to buy these pricey "gifts." I would like to see them endorse a brand that makes a contribution to those less fortunate, or for example, the recent storm victims.
Why can't a brand like Lug make a huge contribution to help these victims and get a celebrity's endorsement because of this?
I hope some of these celebrities auction the contents of their gift bags to help the storm victims.

At least they now pay taxes on the contents.

@beach-mom Because they don't want to. Because for all their pontificating to the contrary, celebrities really do like the goodies they get and they don't want to give them up. Celebrities are free advertising and the common folk look up to celebrities; yeah, a huge percentage do. Plus, by giving them free stuff, the companies can write it off.
Give it to the needy so we can make the world a better place? Please, where's the fun in that? Welcome to the real world of the majority with money, power and connections.

A gift is meant for the recipient and is not dependent on need. Celebrities shouldn't be expected to give up their gifts simply because others have less.
If you wish to contribute than donate your own gifts and allow others to do with theirs as they wish without judging what is none of your business.

Yep...Not our business! Celebs often get freebies because the businesses giving them out, benefit by doing so...Publicity.
These businesses may also give to those in need, but aren't required to do so. Again...Not our business.

It's an advertising stunt. Those giving think it's good publicity for their product to be used or seen publicly.
I wonder how many here sell their gifts and donate the cash, every little bit helps.

FYI:
The Lug brand is a new company started by a young couple with a baby. They were scratching by not long ago.

Beach-mom -
Many of the celebrities have donated massive amounts of money in the last several weeks to the hurricane victims, come donating $500,000 to $1,000,000. In addition they put on a televised show and raised over $44,000,000 for the hurricane victims. Many of them donate to worthy causes all year. Can't we let them receive gift baskets at an event celebrating their careers without criticism?

@september Let's all remember that when the conversation turns to CEO compensation and how they run their businesses, how they lawfully treat their employees...you know...stuff like that.
