I have one friend that uses email to keep in touch.  My family texts or uses messenter or chat on FB.

I only email them if I need to send an attachment (copy or picture).   If I do this I will also text, "check email."

Our family mainly uses a group chat. Someone from our family is always on it putting funny memes or gifs. It is really funny to read. I love how silly and hysterical my family is.

i understand the hesitancy to try something different, but dont knock it until you give it a try. even my 75 year old mother has learned how to text......and she is still using an older type of phone......NOT a smartphone. she loves learning new things and it keeps her young. Smiley Happy

Teens and "recently teens" I'll call them grew up on texting.  The phone is never out of their hands and that is why so many of them have communication problems.

I don't text because I'm not communication in one to three or four sentances.  I never belonged to Facebook because I don't want a "mirror" in my live.

Re: Emailing Others... is it old school

t's still very useful, but I see a time when it is "old school" I text with anyone I know personally. You can send files, screen shots, links, pics, etc. data costs might be too high to do what you do with email, currently, but texting is real time. So I think that's where the future lies. Right now, I only email when the circumstances are formal/business, or files too big for messaging.

Re: Emailing Others... is it old school

This subject is definitely one that will get varied answers.

I love texting, and that is the way I communicate with both my teacher daughter, and my trucker daughter, as well as with my two siblings.   Only one of my girlfriends texts, so the others I communicate with by email.   I still have many family members who have never used a computer, so I call, or write them.   I have no interest in Facebook, and no one in my circle of family or friends has Twitter accounts.

I don't even have a cell phone at the moment, much less text.  My last Tracfone a year ago arrived defective and I just returned it.  I might get a Tracfone and get rid of my landline soon.  I only use technology that I need to use, which does not include texting.  I don't like being available at all times and often don't answer my phone.  The display is broken, so I can't screen calls.  It's a nuisance.

My car broke down this summer and I had to wait until someone stopped to ask if I need help in order to call for a tow.

I do have a twitter account with no followers and only a few tweets.  I use it to send news items to my talk radio hosts.

Re: Emailing Others... is it old school

i use email for personal reasons rarely; for work, yes.

everyone i know uses txt mssg or they will call

my Mom "doesnt know from computers", or even texting or even voicemail. she has a cell but only can answer a call.  i dont know how many times i have showed her how to retrieve a voice message. no answering machine on the land line either.

yet, when she leaves a message on my and line answering device, i cannot bear to delete the messages. at 85, with some health issues,  who knows when the last time will be  that i hear her voice. " ooo vell i guess you guyss arent there. oh, vell"

Yes.  However, they don't learn to spell or even spell correctly.  I like email and will do it until it can't be done.

Re: Emailing Others... is it old school

I can text when I need to, but it's a total pain.  I'd much rather e-mail and type on a full-size keyboard.  Luckily for me, my friends do mostly communicate via e-mails or phone calls - one of the benefits of being a senior citizen, I suppose.

And don't get me started on Facebook - I have a page which I practically never log in to view.  I did, over the weekend, and found myself muttering, "Who ARE all these people? I thought I'd set my page to private - no, I don't know you and I don't want to!"

Maybe that's the issue - it's "social media" and I'm not actually particularly social.  I prefer having a few good friends.

Re: Emailing Others... is it old school

I think it depends on the purpose and length of your communication and whether or not you want to have an ongoing dialog... Personally, I don't care what's old school... I use the form of communication that works best for me at the time and that I choose to use, which is almost never Twitter or text. I also don't think most of my communications need routinely to include photos or video, but hey, that's me.
