He'd be 81 today. I think he is the best male voice of all time. Music would be a sad thing if he were never born.

And I've heard plenty of times from the people that knew/saw him that pictures did him no justice. If this does him no justice I would've probably had a stroke meeting him lol

Such a handsome and talented man.  Musically, he gave the world such a gift.

I agree with you totally.  I remember going to the store and seeing he came out with a new record - bought it immediately without even listening to if first.  Knew it would be fantastic.  Still have his CDs in my car - my favorite is his gospel album - nobody sings gospel songs like Elvis.   Wish I could have seen him in person.  Love to watch his Vegas performances - there is one on today on PBS.

So nice to see this post. I am listening to an oldies station right now and they mentioned that it is The King's birthday. When I am in my car, I often listen to Channel 19 on Sirius which is the Elvis Channel. He had such an amazing voice. His music still lives on even though he has been gone for almost 40 years.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to see Elvis in concert three times. The first was when he was at the height of fitness and looked great and sang like nobody else before or since. (Aloha from Hawaii look) The second time he was a older, still looked good, and sang with even more depth and maturity. His Gospel songs were next to none. The last time we saw him, he was very overweight and deep into drugs. Some songs he simply couldn't sing and would let the back-ups sing while he tried to get his breath. He tried, but eveyone knew he was not well. He simply didn't have the energy to sing. We were all sad for him. Shortly after, he died. He threw away a career that could have have lasted even to this 81st birthday.

Elvis's music was real music: a melody, words, a message, unlike the stuff today that's just noise IMHO.

Happy Birthday, Elvis. RIP
