Your son was a hero amoungst them!
I love that street.
Wouldn't flood insurance if they had it cover this?

@on the bay It wasn't my son but a good friend of his; I'll relay your thoughts to him ![]()
Not everyone who has a business on Main Street (or any of the other streets that were also washed out) are the owners of the building. You'd be surprised to find out that the majority of the buildings (especially down the hill towards the Train Station) are owned by a few people. THEY may have flood insurance but the business owner may not. Similar to you renting a house and have renters insurance: in the event of a fire, the OWNER of the house is covered but YOU the RENTER will not be unless YOU have renters insurance.
I have a large stream in the back of my house. Flood insurance is suggested by was not required by my mortgage company. In a known flood plane, I think it is but I'm not sure. Some of those buildings have been owned by families for generations so not having to have it may have been grandfathered in.
Though the media are focusing on the business/tourist area of Main Street, further up the road (by the Historic Colored School and Rogers Avenue and beyond) there is also horrific damage. The waters started WAY up the road in order for that kind of damage to occur to that area.
To answer your question; it will depend on many factors. Since there are some shops that are the size of a large master bedroom, I would doubt it but... who knows.

The owner of Portalli's returned to his Ellicott City restaurant Sunday to survey the flooding damage. He was greeted by a woman walking out of the restaurant with her arms full of liquor bottles.

I will only say this because it will give a bit of an insight to why so many of the business owners are not impressed with those who have been in charge for a long time.....
Google the press conference given by the state officials. Listen carefully as he PROMISES that NO LOOTING will occur because they will have State Troopers there 24/7 to protect all the property.
Just another broken promise by....."Them".
