This might be a bit off topic. BUT I wanted to let people know. My son gave us a larger HD TV a few years ago for Christmas. We had a relatively new TV and it seemed a shame to just throw it out. So we asked the nursing home where my husband's Mom was living if they thought anyone in the nursing home could use a TV. The nursing home was thrilled to get it. They said that there were people that had TV that didn't work well or not at all. So if you get a TV and your old one still works. Think about asking  a nursing home if they could use it.

Last week I went into a store called Ollies. They had a huge selection of canes. They even had folding canes for $5. They even had handcarved canes that were beautiful.

What a wonderful idea @drizzellla !

Thanks for mentioning the TVs  Smiley Happy

I went yesterday to Walgreens and didn't see the "sr. tree" but I should have asked but to tell the truth, by the time I got done getting what I came for I forgot to ask about it!Woman Sad But I will.

I'm thinking it will be a good idea to ask stores if they have this and maybe if they don't they will start one if they can.

I like this idea so much too. There are so many charitable ideas that benefit children, from coats to toys to backpacks but hardly any you see for seniors and so many can use that help or giving. Also veterans and animals!

I have a sweet neighbor who has dementia and I visit her often and we go places together. She has a great sense of humor and we laugh at the same things. She also has the most loving, kind heart and is so appreciative of everything. We like to sit on her porch in her rocking chair and exclaim over how beautiful the trees are, or the birds while her dog enjoys sitting at our feet getting a back rub. She may ask 10 times if I'd like tea, but we think alike and feel the same way about so many things.

And like most people with dementia, she has no short term memory but remembers stories from her childhood up to her young adulthood.

She might not remember where we went just hours ago or even minutes ago, but she remembers me.

And I do enjoy her and her good heart, and great sense of humor.

You're doing such a wonderful thing, the gift of time together is the best.

The father of a close friend has Alzheimers and she takes him various places including church.  He doesn't know where he is but he loves getting out.

I'm beginning to wonder if all Walgreens have the senior giving tree or just the one we stopped in to the other day.

Re: Elderly In Need: Senior Giving Trees

You got me! I am going to go to Walgreens..we have one a bit out for me..but I would love to do something like that.

I have been looking to do something different ...as every year we do the Toys for Tots..and then the Local Facebook Sites have adopt-a-families and always helped to person who orchestrates it...but it seems like nobody is thankful. they don't like the 'free' things..they turn around and try and resell them on other yard sale sites.  They sign-up for multiple places it is just a huge mess..so no more...no matter how much begging...and poor me..Toys for Tots and now I would love to help the Seniors too.

It was stated by a local charity what they do is cut UPC symbol off the items and all local stores are made aware that is indication the item was given for free.

@Noel7

Yes, that is exactly it! She doesn't know where she is one minute to the next when we go out, but she does love getting out, and will say, "this is so enjoyable, and thank you so much"Smiley Happy
