It's unfortunate it has to be now - lol I was actually hoping it would get postponed until after Xmas - but after the recuperation period I'll be a much happier camper all round.

I have not noticed that but I am going to make a point of looking for those trees.  Although, we have a 90 year old that we "adopted" through a church program about 10 years ago.  He's family now and we look out for him and make sure he has what he needs.

I haven't seen anything like this, but now I am going to look out for these.

We had a Salvation Army Angel Tree at my last office and my new office adopts a local elementary school where 80% of the kids qualify for the free or reduced lunch. Some departments sponsor classrooms and buy toys for the kids and other departments hold fundraisers for the school.

I've never seen something that provides for seniors and I love this idea so much.

Our local library used to do this, and we used to participate. I haven't been in for a couple of years, so don't know if they still do it or not. 

There are so many seniors that aren't able to have everything they need, even after a lifetime of hard work. I get rather angry about the situation when I see where a lot of our tax money goes...to younger people who have no intention of working or doing, rather than those that have already given a lifetime of it.

You just buy the item and the store will make sure it goes to the right person

We have a giving tree at our church, and I think social services takes care of the distributions

Our church also has a tree for a home for kids and our church's own food bank. The church has a party for the kids from the food bank and they get their presents at the party. And the people from the home come pick up the presents for the kids.

I think Walgreen's has a wonderful idea.

Our church had one for families.  I really like the idea of gifts for seniors.

This might be a bit off topic. BUT I wanted to let people know. My son gave us a larger HD TV a few years ago for Christmas. We had a relatively new TV and it seemed a shame to just throw it out. So we asked the nursing home where my husband's Mom was living if they thought anyone in the nursing home could use a TV. The nursing home was thrilled to get it. They said that there were people that had TV that didn't work well or not at all. So if you get a TV and your old one still works. Think about asking  a nursing home if they could use it.

Last week I went into a store called Ollies. They had a huge selection of canes. They even had folding canes for $5. They even had handcarved canes that were beautiful.

I went yesterday to Walgreens and didn't see the "sr. tree" but I should have asked but to tell the truth, by the time I got done getting what I came for I forgot to ask about it! But I will.

I'm thinking it will be a good idea to ask stores if they have this and maybe if they don't they will start one if they can.

I like this idea so much too. There are so many charitable ideas that benefit children, from coats to toys to backpacks but hardly any you see for seniors and so many can use that help or giving.Also veterans and animals!

I have a sweet neighbor who has dementia and I visit her often and we go places together. She has a great sense of humor and we laugh at the same things. She also has the most loving, kind heart and is so appreciative of everything. We like to sit on her porch in her rocking chair and exclaim over how beautiful the trees are, or the birds while her dog enjoys sitting at our feet getting a back rub. She may ask 10 times if I'd like tea, but we think alike and feel the same way about so many things.

And like most people with dementia, she has no short term memory but remembers stories from her childhood up to her young adulthood.

She might not remember where we went just hours ago or even minutes ago, but she remembers me.

And I do enjoy her and her good heart, and great sense of humor.
