“meet or exceed all applicable federal safety standards.”
They are used too often as an excuse not to fix something. Today's rant is due to this story about keyless ignition systems:

I agree and it's a little infuriating that the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers are opposed to the alarm.

I have a keyless entry and push ignition. You can't lock the car without the car being off. So imo I hate the this new system but it was already there on my new car. I am now forever having to be cognizanrt of where my keys are since I don't use them to start or open my car.

I don't understand why it takes these vehicle manufacturers so long to find a fix and just do the right thing. I understand they can't be responsible for all human error but this is not a new issue. Both our vehicles (same manufacturer) (2009 and 2013) are have keyless ignitions. I have never heard any warning when the vehicle is vacated and left running.
My husband has done it a few times. Always outside thankfully. The engine is so quiet you can't hear it running when you leave the car. When he first acquired it, we went to visit his sister, had been there about 1/2 hour and her grass cutter knocked on her door and told us the vehicle was running.
We always lock our cars, so I think his lets you lock it and walk away.

I don't like anything push-button, especially ignitions. I don't trust the wiring now-a-days. I like the good old- fashioned key, which I doubt could turn on the car by itself, (especially when the key is not in it's slot). JMO

I rarely drive my husband's car, but I just took it this morning to do a couple errands. Every time I was about to get out, I was thinking, "I turned it off, right?" I know it beeps if you close the door and the key is inside the car, but I don't know if it beeps if the car is still running. I thought they all had automatic shutoff if the key was out of range for a certain amount of time - apparently they do not but should.

Buttons could become 'stuck', right? Or, perhaps one might think it's off, but, because of extreme cold, or hot, the plastic casing might contract or expand, and activate the ignition (wiring). I don't know.........always thinking of 'this and that'. Something to do, I guess. (lol and rolling eyes.)

I wouldn't buy a car with a keyless ignition ...... any time a new feature comes out it takes years to work the bugs out.
I think we need to be harder on the government regulators, NOT the car manufacturers ..... they have to keep an eye on profits and pleasing their board of directors AND shareholders!

i have had a car with the keyless feature since 2006 and i really like it. no way to lock your keys in your car, no fumbling when you are out at night to get the door open, easy and fast to lock when you get out of the car. i would definitely get the feature again.

Keyless features are a great idea especially for those with severe arthritis or grasping/turning problems.
