@LilacTree

Unless I missed it and you posted it already, what is the source of your article?

It's bizarre that eggs would ever be considered "dairy."

According to the Mayo website, diabetics should limit their egg eating, others don't have to. I love eggs and eat a lot of them. Don't ever worry about my cholesterol, my HDL is over 100, LDL hardly visible. I consider eggs to be an important part of my nutrition, but do not eat gluten, soy, or sugar. I had a heart CT last week and there was not even one little speck of blockage. Eggs are brain food, and are getting much better press from the nutrition world than they ever did. Enjoy your eggs if you're not diabetic!

@LilacTree   I can't eat dairy either since it makes me break out in acne and/or a rash. It's hard but my face thanks me every day.

I will check out Rice Dream. The soy vegan cheese at Trader Joe's is very good!!! Tastes like the real thing. I buy the shredded one in the bag. So good on scrambled eggs. I can't live without eggs. I'd rather give up dairy a million times. But it's surprising to find that almost everything contains dairy or is processed in a facility that deals with dairy products.

My guess is people consider eggs dairy because they're found in the dairy section.  If they were in the produce area, they might be considered vegetable or fruit.

Of course eggs are not dairy, BUT it is an animal by-product.

Any animal food source is going to be

high in cholesterol which is not good for health

especially someone with compromised heart health,

who is diabetic and/or has autoimmune issues.

For optimum health, no dairy, no eggs, no animal products, no processed food and no oils.

So I should tell my 95 year old FIL to stop eating the eggs & meat and no more milk, either?  Just kidding, but obviously some people do just fine eating all of those things, and he is a shining example.  By the way, he is not only still getting around well, but can discuss politics, the stock market, etc.   We all have to make our own decisions about these things, and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for all.  Personally, I try for moderation in all things, including food.

People are convinced eggs will complete their diet...but there's more, much more.  People complain about lack of water & global warming....but if you're still chomping down your daily omelette or egg salad sandwich, you're a big part of that problem.

Many refuse to recognize the Ethical practices & Environmental impact animal husbandry has on our planet.

Just considering eggs:

Greenhouse gas emissions, feed, water...then the production, packaging, transport of cartons of eggs.

And with all the baby chicks being born, only the females are kept alive.  The males chicks are killed.

What do they do with the male chicks?

Several methods can be used to kill chicks:

Maceration, using a large high-speed grinder into which the live chicks are fed.

Gases or gas mixtures, often carbon dioxide is used to induce unconsciousness and then death.

Cervical dislocation (breaking the neck)

Maceration ensures the chick is killed within 1 sec if performed effectively and competently. This method is considered more humane than gassing the chicks with high concentrations of carbon dioxide. Gassing results in gasping and head shaking, and can take up to two minutes for the chick to die.

The 2005-2006 American Veterinary Medical Association Executive Board proposed a policy change, which was recommended by the Animal Welfare Committee on disposal of unwanted chicks, poults, and pipped eggs. The policy states "Unwanted chicks, poults, and pipped eggs should be killed by an acceptable humane method, such as use of a commercially designed macerator that results in instantaneous death. Smothering unwanted chicks or poults in bags or containers is not acceptable. Pips, unwanted chicks, or poults should be killed prior to disposal. A pipped egg, or pip, is one where the chick or poult has not been successful in escaping the egg shell during the hatching process."

@sidsmom, omg, I could have gone the rest of my life without knowing those facts! As a young child, we grew our own chicks and slaughtered them for dinner, I know it all. I get my eggs from a young family in my town who, fortunately, don't have the need to kill of the any little male clicks that might hatch. They don't hatch many, they sell them to people like me! My city allows chicken coops in backyards.

This is true, NYVixen, but we can keep it to the absolute minimum by not drinking milk, eating ice cream, cheese, etc.  For me it's a double reason, my stomach problems and when I read about how dairy cows are milked.  I shop at Trader Joe's and will try the soy vegan cheese, as I miss cheese the most!  Thanks for the tip!

I think I got it when I googled dairy products and foods that should be avoided when one has autoimmune diseases.  I'm sorry, I can't remember exactly what I searched.  But you can try that and maybe the article will come up.  It also could have come through my FB feed.

At this time in my life, I'm still avoiding soy as much as possible.  Maybe as I get older, I won't care!

I don't miss cheese--just knowing!!  I had to stay away from most cheeses because they use calf/cow stomach to make it.

Crazy, but even things like Cool Whip and Coffee Mate, both touted as *non-dairy* creamer--have dairy in them!

I enjoy So Delicious creamer in my coffee.  Gave up the creamer I was using---like a bad habit.

Lilac, you have GOT to try So Delicious ice cream!!
