I just read about this in the paper. "Eddie Bauer says customers who used a credit or debit card to purchase items between Jan. 2 and July 17 at any of its retail stores may have had their payment information accessed by hackers. The apparel retailer will offer free identity protection for a year to any customer who shopped at the store during that period." Thankfully I'm not a regular customer of theirs.

How is that going to help (the free offer).

I don't shop there.  It seems that all retailers will have a compromise at some point

do they purposely wait so long to make these announcements or does it take that long to find out about the compromise

Re: Eddie Bauer Security Breach

Earlier this year I thought about buying a few things from them.  Glad I didn't.

Re: Eddie Bauer Security Breach

I got a letter from Eddie Bauer this week about the breach. Thankfully the CC I used there was not used by anyone other than me. Discover has issued a new card since it was part of the breach. Not happy and have to say that I'm so weary of shopping anywhere anymore.

I agree about the credit monitoring - what good will that do? Once your credit has been affected, it takes a long time to get it back to where you had it.

I have shopped there.  I am a 'friends' member.  I didn't receive any email or letter.  I have shopped there for years.

Re: Eddie Bauer Security Breach

Usually you hear about a few DAYS that security was breached NOT SIX MONTHS!!

That tells you a great deal about the LACK of IT security at that company. Pathetic.

On top of that their offer is a slap in the face.

Re: Eddie Bauer Security Breach

I actually did find this online:

August 18, 2016
Dear Eddie Bauer Community:

We recently learned that the point of sale systems at our retail stores were affected by malware. We immediately initiated a full investigation with third-party digital forensic experts to identify and contain the attack as quickly as possible. We determined that customers’ payment card information used at our retail stores on various dates between January 2, 2016 and July 17, 2016 may have been accessed. Not all cardholder transactions during this period were affected. Payment card information used online at eddiebauer.com was not affected.

We want to assure you that we have fully identified and contained this incident. Unfortunately, malware intrusions like this are all too common in the world that we live in today. In fact, we learned that the malware found on our systems was part of a sophisticated attack directed at multiple restaurants, hotels, and retailers, including Eddie Bauer. We are conducting a comprehensive review of our IT systems to incorporate recommended security measures in order to strengthen them and prevent this from happening again. We have been working closely with payment card organizations and customers will not be responsible for any fraudulent charges to their accounts. We also have been working with the FBI to identify the perpetrators and provide whatever cooperation is necessary to hold them accountable.

Earning customers’ loyalty and trust is a core part of Eddie Bauer’s mission and underpins our commitment to exceptional customer service. We always strive to exceed our customers’ expectations, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are offering identity protection services to all customers who made purchases or returns in our stores between January 2, 2016 and July 17, 2016. We have arranged to have Kroll, a global leader in risk mitigation and response, provide 12 months of complimentary services to affected Eddie Bauer customers. You can learn more about the incident and the services being offered by calling 1-855-294-2549.

We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time. Please know that we’ll continue to put our customers’ interests first.

Mike Egeck - CEO

The above highlighted is also good info.  But for me it's of major importance to know ASAP and not months later.

Re: Eddie Bauer Security Breach

I got the letter about the breach and monitor my credit cards a few times a week.  I used my MC at the outlet store during the time of the breach.

Nothing strange has shown up on my card as of yet.
