Re: Economic Prospects by State, 2017

Funny that your post was edited.

I don't have a problem with your source.

I went and peeked at the bottom 10, whew, my state is NOT on it!

At least not now.

I am a bit baffled that the link I provided to the state economic outlook rankings in my original post disappearred, while another one provided by another poster is left in?

But that's OK.   I think people should be able to see all different ways of determining prosperity rankings, and those interested will be easily able to seek them out.

Whatever way you judge them, I'm pleased for any and all states that are able to improve their prospects, but I'm disappointed that some posters don't want everyone to have access to a variety of points of view.

My guess is someone complained. Anyway, I'm sure everyone knows where to find all the pertinent info.

Thanks, software.  I have no problem with anyone disputing the detailed and complicated ways that the link determnes the rankings--  more power to them!  I still maintain more information is better than less--  let a variety of sources be consulted, and people are usually smart enough to discern whether they are valid for them...

Your states are doing well because they don't take on the burden of the states that payer higher taxes across the board. So yes it is not a good source because it is not explaining why they are doing better or what would happen if they actually had to pay what others pay.

@AngusandBuddhasMom I agree.

Even though this or that state ranks high for this or that, I clearly wouldn't want to live there regardless of the so called stats and ratings.

CA has always done well in covering their legal and illegal occupants depending on the different couties.  Taxes - we pay too much to provide for others.  We probably could be our own country.

Re: Economic Prospects by State, 2017

caravaggio, I agree totally that some states are hideously over-taxed!  I've lived in at least one of them.  The heavy tax burden did not improve the standard of living, the infrastructure, or the lack of creation of new jobs. Perhaps it is good to have a variety of ways of determining economic health...

@Oznell

the pdf you linked to can be found easily if anyone wants to see all of the information from that source. my guess is is that the mod deleted the link because it does have a lot of "political" references and topics in it.

if you notice, the other links were deleted also.

The ALEC-Laffer State Economic Outlook Rankings for this year are out now.  The top ten rankings are:

Utah

Indiana

North Carolina

North Dakota

Tennessee

Florida

Wyoming

Arizona

Texas

Idaho

Interesting to see North Dakota up there.  I'm assuming that's because the oil boom must be continuing?  It's good to see states move up to prosperity.

I'm going to leave off the bottom 10 states, out of consideration for those of us who live in them and might get depressed!  Congrats, top ten!

A friend who has a number of relatives in the oil biz lost their jobs a few years back due to the boom busting.
