So many people around here in restaurants all day/night long. The shopping center parking lot is packed solid day and night. Used to be busy only on weekends. I 'don't get it'. Lots of people around here unemployed, yet still 'out and about'. The way it seems to me, our economy should be booming, with so many people spending on a daily basis.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I agree there's eating out and then there's eating out. If you go to a white tablecloth place and order cocktails and wine, that alone will set you back $50.

On the other hand, there are lots of good mom-and-pop diners that offer senior menus, early bird menus, dinner specials, etc. A person could have dinner every night in that kind of restaurant and not spend $100 all week. If you have a light breakfast and skip lunch, you'd be spending less than a decent trip to the supermarket.

My husband and I eat out frequently. We have been married for 50 years and after 50 years of cooking almost all our meals, I am tired of it. I still cook some meals but I enjoy going out and not having to clean up the kitchen.

We never went out to eat when younger or first married. Couldn't really afford it. Ate a hot dog and had Orange Julius at a mall if we went shopping. The places are pretty crowded now. Wonder how people can afford it now since so many are out of work.

My husband introduced me to many different types of food while dating and it continued until he passed away after more than 46 years of marriage. Eating out wasn't a treat, it was a must do. My children ate indian food, mexican, chinese, and french food by the time they were 2 years old. They even liked the greek restaurants we frequented.

Eating out wasn't so much a treat, it was a celebration of our life together and a celebration of our children.

There were lots of different ways we could cut our budget to make this happen. I am happy that my children grew up not just knowing about different ethnic foods but enjoying the staff and cooks at the restaurants.

Here in Florida it seems many people eat out every day - 3 meals. I wish we could afford to do that! When we do eat out it is generally at lunchtime because the prices are better and the servings smaller -both good things. When we do go out at dinner either it is with another couple or a group and usually they know somewhere that has an early bird special. It is unusual for us to go out to dinner by ourselves. On sundays we go to the Elks for breakfast after church, with a group from the church.

I could feed us for a week with what we would spend on a meal around here!! There are soooo many restaurants close to us of all kinds and they're also always busy.

I don't mind cooking and prefer it, and I try to duplicate restaurant meals we like. We eat out only a few times a year, or obviously when we are away from home. That's it.

We eat out a lot and always have since both were working. We like Mexican and do that about once a week--I order a la cart since I don't want the beans and rice. We are big fans of Mediterranean and Indian food, so we do that occasionally as well when the mood strikes, or sometimes you have to have a steak or burger! RIGHT now! LOL

We like to sit down, be waited on and talk over the day's events. It is relaxing and you don't have to clean up the kitchen! I am a good cook and can have a good healthy meal on the table in no time, but it seems even more so now it is good to go out. And food isn't cheap no matter whether you eat in or out. I took home 2 bbq sandwiches last night and it was $16.
