Re: Eating 'Dangerous' Foods

@golding76

Never saw a category called "dangerous foods". And how/who calculated those minutes? I think whoever paid them should use their money for a better purpose.

Anyone that is overly concerned with their longevity? Time to be a little less concerned about age numbers in their lives, and more concerned about the life in the years they are living, and will live.

I gave up all meats/fish and fowl back in the mid 1970's, so anything connected to a meat product and my joy of life, and for how long? My focus is each day that I live and am physically and mentally able to enjoy those days. Minutes off my life? Had many illnesses that might have taken off a few. Do I care now? Nope!

Re: Eating 'Dangerous' Foods

I wonder how they know what would take how many minutes from one's life, since we have no idea what our end date is.    I wish we did, or at least had the choice of knowing.  I would love to know.

As to the hot dogs, I was never into them because I remember how they used to show what, uh, parts and such go into making them.  No judgment for others, of course, but I decided it wasn't for me.   Lots of stuff I like that others don't, and vice versa, so I wouldn't try to make choices for others.

 I'm not being arrogant or anything because I DO eat my share of junk.   I do keep an eye on it, though, and only allow myself certain amounts of stuff that's not the best choice.  I don't want to gain weight.  Not many joys left in my life, so some of it I get from eating things I enjoy.  Smiley Happy

@golding76 Aw thanks! I don't pay attention to silly "theories" which I have been hearing (about food dangers) since I was in high school!

Re: Eating 'Dangerous' Foods

I had a beef chili dog with chili Fritos for lunch.  It was really good--a celebration today.

I have 2 friends who are researchers at a university.  Anything they can cook up an idea for that will get them a grant (most often from the govt. with my tax dollars), they will dutifully research and publish.  They are idiots.

So much for that.

As @Spurt  said,.....everything in moderation.  I don't find anything off limits, unless it's poisonous, illegal, or your doctor specifically tells you not to eat it.  I find for me anyway, it stops me from overeating knowing that I can have a portion of anything I want.  It helps me avoid craving foods that otherwise would be a dieter's no no.  🍎🍌🍅🌽🍔🍕🍝🍨🍫☕🍷

@Sooner Oh gosh my late DH and I LOVED chili dogs and used to get them at the (now closed) Wienerschnitzel at least twice month!  They are so yummy.

I don't think that hotdogs should be a staple in anyone's diet. Fortunately, they don't call to me. :-)

Re: Eating 'Dangerous' Foods

How can they possibly know that eating one hot dog takes 23 min off of a life?  Why not 14 min or 30 min?  That's just pure publicity seeking.  There are dozens of factors that determine longivity; hot dogs aren't one of them, although overall diet might be.

They come out with this kind of info on just about anything that we eat and then backtrack later. Don't eat eggs, tuna, beef, etc. If everything was taken away that's bad for us, there wouldn't be much left to eat.  Like they said on the news, Joey Chestnut should have died long ago, then.
