@phoenixbrd wrote:@golding76 For the most part, I believe it is what we do 99% of the time when it comes to diet. But then there is @Trinity11 's story.....a heart attack after one hot dog. With our country's current challenges, I do everything possible to keep my family's immune system strong. A strong body helps promote a strong calm mind. So, no we don't eat hot dogs and we wouldn't even if was considered healthy due to ethical reasons.
Personally, I don't think that it was the "one" hotdog that caused the heart attack.
She could've had fish for dinner that night, and still had the heart attack.
It's a culmination of a lifetime of bad eating habits that build up and causes our health to fail.
But, be that as it may, I'm glad that @Trinity11 is here with us!😊

I grew up on a farm where Grandpa was extremely heavy handed with bug dust and insecticide, and sometimes we just forgot to wash the grapes, apples, or strawberries before we ate them. When Grandpa was spraying the orchard with malathion, we could smell the spray long before we ever saw him carrying the sprayer - - and our house was nearly 1/4 of a mile away!
I'm not sure I can even count to the number that covers how many hot dogs, pounds of pork, beef, slices of bacon, cans of Spam, pounds of white sugar, etc., that my body has processed. I also know I'm not going to worry about it, nor change my eating habits at this stage of my life.
I firmly believe my days on this earth were determined long before I ever tasted food.
Respectfully @RedTop , does your husband feel the same? I know he went through a very rough year with diabetes. I think of him often because what you wrote about his care and slow healing reminded me of what my diabetic BIL went through.

Horse puckey! I ate tons of dogs as a kid and a whole bunch as an adult. I'm 73 and if they don't kill me, all the tuna, bacon, mayo and everything else I ate WILL.
Utter nonsense.

Oh please, if that were the case my daughter would be dead and be owing minutes to the grim reaper...

Who paid for this study and how did they come to idea of 35 minutes taken from one's life? The whole thing is suspicious to me. According to what I've heard before, any food could be dangerous. Might as well quit eating.

Yes, actually my 70 year old husband feels the same, especially since his diabetes is a result of his military service. His childhood was also farm based; I feel sure he ate even more unwashed fruit, unrefrigerated eggs, and drank more fresh milk than me.
You do remember correctly that he went thru a year long wound ordeal that included an amputation procedure. The lengthy issues we dealt with were directly related to the VA, not problems with his physical healing. My husband is not a slow healer (as yet), and healed the wound as well as a non diabetic, once my verbal complaints and photo evidence went to the right people, and he started receiving the medical attention and services that fit his needs.

University of Michigan did the study, and was published in a peer review journal, Nature Food.
