Re: Easter Time at the Back Fence

Well, our NE friends came Friday and left early this morning. It has been over ten years since their last visit though it seems to me we were in their home in the interim, and it was so nice to see them again and play catch up. Jim wanted to take them to the canyon and I was apprehensive as he doesn't drive as well as he used to and the road down into the canyon is steep, winding and narrow, but we did go and made it back in one piece though there was some hairy experiences along the way{#emotions_dlg.crying} Here is a web site if you'd like to take a look at it; it is beautiful and I love being there despite the road.

Because of our guests I have not been here in several days and am surprised there have been so few post's since my last one. Hope everone's OK.
BirdMama, it's always windy here, but I can understand your apprehension and not being able to sleep well with all of the severe weather that's occurred NE of us. I don't know if you've had any tornado's up your way, but some of the state's have been devastated. Our friends kept checking the weather channel and their computer's to see which way they should head home. Hope you can get your yard equipment fixed up; don't blame you for being upset at his recent charges.
Thanks for the quiche and happy Monday to all Sue

Re: Easter Time at the Back Fence

We are back from visiting the Mouse. We had wonderful weather. Did a lot of shopping as usual. Merle and I don't usually go into the parks but did do the downtown Disney thing. Snow White is my favorite Princess so I found a new one in the art building. So often they don't put the right face (imo) on her but this one was perfect. The only thing was that she has blue eyes. I griped about that the whole time I was buying her. It prompted a discussion back at the house. It turns out that Snow White has had both eye colors in her time. In the 70s she had blue eyes. I like the blue eyes because they are like my Granddaughters but I always have believed she had brown eyes like me. So there you have it. We both have a history with Snow White.

The two little ones that visited with us were not there at the same time - such a shame. Leo is my great nephew from California and he is an interesting character. He is 5. It took him a little while to warm up to us and then oh boy. His favorite thing to do was whatever he was doing at the moment but he did enjoy the pool a lot. Same thing for Natalie. We had gone off and left the giant giraffe that we bought last year so made a quick stop at the store to pick up another one. Of course they didn't have one so settled for a giant fish which seemed to work for both kids. Their most fun thing to pay with was a baby inner tube that someone had left and a beach ball that someone had also left. We had zillions of balls but something about those two things appealed to the kids. Both of them liked to get on that inner tube and could make pretty good time kicking their feet. I kept waiting for it to fail but it never did.

The second week we were there we had quite a household. Usually we have a couple days when no one is around but we had company right to the end. It was ok but a little chaotic especially when it came time to clean out the fridge and pantry. We never did find any great tomatoes. My Granddaughter in law has a severe reaction to oranges so we couldn't have them the first week but mostly juice oranges in season so we didn't bother the second week. Was hoping to pick up some tangerines but we were two weeks late.

Coming home was a bunch of delays. I worry about running out of gas and Merle jut wants to find a hold he can dart into. It doesn't do any good because first one lane goes and then another. Many times you cannot figure out what ever caused the delay in the first place. There was a lot of construction, especially on Sunday which infuriated merle when he saw workers in large groups just standing around. Well they had to be there at a certain time I'd guess and then they had to wait for their materials to arrive. Merle figured they were getting double time because it was Sunday and were playing games on their iPhones.

Glad to be back home. With so many people there the second week it was hard to get a load of wash in so brought a mound of laundry back with me. But I like using my own machine anyway. The house had a HE top load and I felt like I had to stand on my head to reach for the wet clothes.

Re: Easter Time at the Back Fence

"Where have all the poster's gone?" sung to the tune of Peter, Paul and Mary's "Where have all the flowers gone?" I sure hope that all are well and simply busy.

It's nice here today.......a little breezy but that's certainly not unusual. I'm waiting patiently for my plants to come from Roberta's. Some I bought last year have survived the winter in our living room and are waiting to go outside once again just as soon as I'm sure the temp's not going to dip below 40 at night. Don't want their little toesies to get frost bit.

Got my hair cut Wednesday and it looks so much better. I wear a short bob and it's so easy to care for especially since I stopped using color.

Betty, glad you had a nice vacation and made it home again in one piece. Sounds like the kids enjoyed it as well. I've always wanted to go to Disney World, but have never made it. We visited Disneyland many times when we lived in CA.

Epi, our part of Texas is flat, treeless and dry so the canyon is an anomaly for our area, but it is beautiful. The state has all sorts of terrain, floral and fauna in different areas of the state. It includes everything from desert to forest's and mountains and then there's the coastal area. I hope you don't overdo in that guest room.

Happy end of the week all! Sue

Re: Easter Time at the Back Fence

Sue, work was kinda crazy this week and I've been without internet access at home since the 7th. I should have it resolved this week and will try to visit more regularly.

Re: Easter Time at the Back Fence

Happy Monday Fencers - We got some rain this morning and the sun is trying to break through right now. I finally have some signs of life in the yard - one daffodil out front and my forsythia is greening up in the back.

Here are some cookies, if you want a snack.

Re: Easter Time at the Back Fence

This is soooo weird. got an email from the Queen and she hinted I had not been coming here. Decided I had best take a peek and was I surprised - I obviously have had a couple or more posts go off into cyberspace. That happens sometimes. I am now using Google more than Explorer as my version of Explorer is the highest I can put on my PC and it does not work well - couple places I go to a lot - are sending me messages that I would not be getting onto and into everything. They are so right. Started using Google more often but am trying to figure out exactllly how many times I have to backspace to make it post. with Internet Explorer I had to back, back, back and back and then pray. I THINK I only hit submit on Google and it works but obviously sometimes it does not take. I will figure it out - have bought a refurbished Dell and have been waiting since Monday last week for them to call and say it is in. Sigh.

At any rate, yesterday was a great day at church. Pastor Don preached his first sermon as the new pastor. He was at the church I first went to for 20 years - he is outstanding. I hope he can get people back - he is super good.

WArm today but no hot - tomorrow cooler and then hopefully some drizzle maybe Wednesday, maybe Thursday, maybe Friday.

Hope all had a good day today.

Re: Easter Time at the Back Fence

Should be getting my newer refurbished computer soon - Staples called me to tell me it had arrived. So at noon today am taking this thing in for them to transfer my stuff over. Therefore may not get back to posting anything for a couple of days. Took over a week for it to arrive and am sure they will need a bit of time to do what they have to do. I think I was smart to stop waiting on getting another one as this thing is obviously on the way out. Drives me insane. I also need to look into another internet service. Am using Verizon and personally I think it is horrible.Never have liked it but I just hate to change things as I find it very difficult quite frankly. Guess I am too old and just do not have the brains for tinkering with cyberspace things. Sigh. Quite frankly I have gotten to the point that I do not like much of anything Verizon has but will say I LOVE their Fios TV. It is really good, rarely gives me a problem and when it goes off which is rare, reprograms itself quickly. With the cable and satellite services I have had in the past sometimes it would take me hours to get back service. My landline phone is also Verizon and am seeing some decently priced plans including landline phones but just not sure. Oh well, I do not move real fast these days anyway so will think some more about these things. LOL.

Hopefully we will see a few drops of water today - keep your fingers crossed.

Gotta run - am leaving some coffee and bagels. Dig in!!!!!

Re: Easter Time at the Back Fence

Good afternoon all - it's been chilly here the past two days. We had snow yesterday, below 32 degrees last night and overcast and gloomy today.

I received my modem and self installed u-verse yesterday, so I'm back to having internet access at home.

My youngest bird Presto supervised my activities and seemed excited to have me at the computer again. She was chirping like crazy. She keeps me company and sits on my shoulder when I chat with the AM Style friends each Saturday.

Re: Easter Time at the Back Fence

I had gone to see my pulmonologist yesterday and had to wait way over an hour to see him.....was glad I'd brought my Kindle. We'd had a nice dinner at Jason's deli before we left town and Oh, my did we ever have a scary ride home{#emotions_dlg.crying}We were driving in the rain and it was really coming down hard and Jim was driving fairly slowly and we were following a small white car. All of a sudden it veered off the road and right in front of us was a red car stalled right in the center of the highway, crossway in the road. Jim had to swerve completely off the highway, off the shoulder and onto the dirt which by now was mud, before getting back up on the highway. I don't know how we kept from turning over, but by Jim's drivng expertise and the grace of God we did not, but we were both quite shaken. I don't know where we began to see hail on the ground, but it had come down in such volume that it looked like snow on the ground and it was particularly visible on the berm on the side of the railroad tracks as well as on the highway though traffic had begun to move it by the time we came though. We were thankful we hadn't got caught in that hail storm as there was no where to pull off and under anything for protection. To say we were happy to arrive home in one piece was an understatement!
