Didn't Alaska have a severe earthquake many years ago?

Wishing all residents and pets and property safety and well being.

Well, Alaska is keeping an eye on two volcanos--Great Sitkin which is at watch status and Spurr which is at advisory status.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A tsunami warning that was issued Wednesday for parts of Southcentral and Southwest Alaska due to a large earthquake along the Aleutian Chain has been lowered to an “advisory” status.

The tremor struck at 12:37 p.m. Alaska time, triggering the warning, but by 1:50 p.m. was lowered to an advisory.

@ROMARY.  Yes, a very strong, damaging earthquake, maybe in the '60s.

@Kachina624  An earthquake that size is nothing unusual in Alaska.  Also depends on how deep it went off.

On March 27, 1964, a magnitude 9.2 earthquake struck the Prince William Sound region of Alaska, becoming the largest earthquake ever recorded in the United States and the second largest globally.

The event, also known as the Great Alaska Earthquake, triggered devastating tsunamis that caused significant damage along the Gulf of Alaska and beyond, including the West Coast of the United States and Hawaii.

The earthquake and subsequent tsunamis resulted in over 130 fatalities and caused widespread destruction.

Alaska has the most earthquakes in the US followed by California and Hawaii.

Between January and May 2025 Alaska experienced 2,242 earthquakes and close to 60,000 between 2015 and May, 2025.

Every US state has had an earthquake at some time.

@Kachina624

Last I knew, there were quite a few fires in Alaska.  somehow or another, most news sources did not comment on this.

I do wonder why,
